lovelcfc Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 Would you say this is our best chance in years of going up? I would with the backing svens going to get and the signings he could make.
MikeyT Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 Would say yes, but i'm waiting to see who we buy/loan first.
Larry_LCFC Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 Yeah it could well be. We have owners who seem to be ready to splash the cash, a manager who has great contacts in the footballing world and a good group of players who seem keen to go up. Obvs we need to bolster and strengthen our team in literally every area of the field but with resources we have i dont see it being a problem. Think our biggest problem will be if sven just goes for the big names e.g. Heskey, Yakubu etc. who maybe dont quite cut it anymore. I rather he spends the money on up-and-coming talent that can defend, assist and ofcourse score goals. A big name team wont necessarily win us promotion. I am positive for next season and things can surely get better for us.

Well, you've put that, yet Yakubu has given the team plenty of goals and assists. ___________ It depends on who we sign, however, I am confident in Sven signings. His signings, excluding a few, have been great. Obviously we do need to invest in all positions, a top goalkeeper, solid full backs, expierienced midfielder and a natural goalscorer (eg Yakubu) are essential in my opinion. I'd be happy for some of the loanees to return as well, such as Naughton and Bruma. I am positive.
KingDarius Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 Optimistic for next season looking forward to it more than usual confident sven will bring the right players in so rekon were in for a gd'n

One Arm Babba Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 I'm betting big on us being champions next season. Gonna go 1G I think.....
Phlashman Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 I'm very optimistic, there are so many good signs. Sven now knows the Championship and will without a doubt be the best manager in the championship next season. Team wise we don't have major changes to do, we're bangin' in goals, we just have to shore up the back, a quality Goalkeeper and a seasoned center back or two along with securing some of the young loanees (Vitor/Mee/Naughton/Cunningham), or alternatives for them, will see that done. Add-in a few potential "big name" signings, a proper pre-season with pre-season games against someone a bit more taxing than Stafford Rangers and we're looking good.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 Its not our best chance in years no. That was last season. This season theres Forest Cardiff Leeds and either Swansea or Reading, whom I'd consider easily as favourites for promotion as we are. Then theres West Ham, and any two of Birmingham, Blackpool, Wolves Wigan and another team who I can't remember

Then theres West Ham, and any two of Birmingham, Blackpool, Wolves Wigan and another team who I can't remember Blackburn. I'd still say there's a pretty good chance. Regardless of whether other teams are better than years gone by or not, a whole pre-season under Sven will hopefully be invaluable. Plus, I can't see any of those teams raping the rest of us next season. They'll be competitive, but talk like I've seen on here of (for example) a Wolves relegation meaning "only one automatic promotion place up for grabs" is ludicrous.

I think West Ham will bounce straight back up. Perhaps with the exception of Parker, I don't think there are too many players that would attract Pemiership clubs, meaning they could well hold on to the majority of them like Newcastle did. I think my tenner bet on the league winners will be on the hammers.
KingDarius Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 Also if im honest i bet the rest of the chumpionship and and the other teams fans might just be a slight envious of citeh at the minute especially forest and derby ! I know if either those was in our position id stop and think fooking hell their going places and fast ! Ive got a deluded mate who supports derby for some reason and hes been talking more about our season next season than derbys !! Got a great chance next season and I for one are close the jizzin in me pants at the thought !!
topharry123 Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 It has to be. There's always going to be strong teams, but the teams that go up are the teams that spend...to a point. Newcastle, QPR last 2 seasons as winners. There's no reason why we can't go up if we spend like our owners say we'll do, in fact i'd expect us to go up if they spend big. Our problem in past years is having to find cheap players on cheap wages. We can get pay money for players and pay bigger wages. The difference in the championship comes down to how much you spend. Higher up it only makes a difference when there's real money ie: Man City and Chelski as opposed to Newcastle and West Brom.

All you've done is swapped last seasons relegated teams for this years? Relegation will be a big set back for whoever else comes down with West Ham and where as Newcastle still romped the league last year, I think you'd struggle to pick out any one of those teams as a clear favourite. They'll all be in with a shot of course, but I really don't imagine any of them being significantly stronger than the rest. They'll all have to ship out a few players to balance books. Last season was a very good chance and we still could've got promoted had we not gone off the rails as we did, but we were at our best without doubt one of if not the best teams in the division this season. Now, Sven has backing, more of a chance to buy and a full pre season. oh, and he won't start 20 odd points off first. Every other team currently in the championship should be just as, if not more worried about what we're doing then what we should be of them.

Newcastle should never have gone down, and they were lucky in the fact that they have a wealthy owner and didn't need to cut costs meaning they could keep the majority of the team together. West Ham will not do that, they'll lose half their team, and from what I can tell do not really have the funds to spend big. IMO they're more likely to do a Middlesborough than a Newcastle. Same with the others, Blackpool and Wolves will probably be strong again, but will still probably fall into the pack. The only team I think would be a huge title contender is Blackburn if they do go down.

Again it's all speculation though... Let's see what our squad looks like first eh?

Forest and Cardiff, will one day have their moment. Its gonna come sooner or later. Pompey were in meltdown when they got relegated, no-one gave them a chance. Its a little different for West Ham this season. The only team (s) I'd be happy about coming down (or staying down for that matter) to improve our own chances are; Wigan and Reading. edit and Blackpool. They're punching above their weight and Adam will be off I reckon

I can see the following leaving: Parker, Cole, Hitzelsperger, Ba, Green, Upson. Plus Keane and Bridge will go back to their clubs. Could be wrong though, be interesting to see what happens!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 Someone wrote about Newcastle having the financial clout to get themselves back up, but not thinking West Ham have the same capability. With Gold and Sullivan there I disagree wholeheartedly

They admit their debts exceed the valuation of the club, and they have to stump up a huge amount for the new stadium!
