Bert Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Because it costs the taxpayer too much money.... http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/news/Letter-blunder-adds-baby-parents-anguish/article-3601872-detail/article.html Only posting because the couple happen to be my brother and his partner, but still.
Guest Bilo Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 What the fvck?! That is absolutely disgraceful and whoever sent that letter needs shooting. Hope Zac has made a good recovery anyway mate.
Leicester Lass Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Steven is definitely the better looking sibling...
Nick Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 So many time wasters at A & E - that's a given. I also appreciate efforts to do something about this. However one would think that rather than a blanket letter to all A & E attendees that they might have the sense to do it on triage notes. All a bit dim.
Houdini Logic Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 This is exactly why GPs should not be running our medical institutions - their concern should be with the wellbeing of patients and not how many pounds people they can get through their own door. I'd be more concerned about the cost of printing and posting ridiculous letters than the price of a concerned patient going to hospital
kam6 Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 What a bunch of f**king dumb asses!! hope that the baby is better
Bellend Sebastian Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Glad Zac is on the mend. You know what this reminds me of? When LCFC wrote to ST holders in L1 a few years back about standing and how we were in breach of regulations etc etc, how we'd been identified as individuals and how they'd got CCTV evidence of our misdemeanours. The problem was, they sent exactly the same letter to everyone in the area around where I was, where I and the vast majority always sat, and you can imagine how thrilled we all were. Maybe the problem with timewasters has got so bad at A&E that they just send that correspondence out to everyone that uses it. You'd think they'd take the time to actually look at each case to see if that's appropriate but it wouldn't surprise me if some div has decided it's easier and more efficient to bung it out to everyone
Simmo86 Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Once saw a women bring a distressed baby into A&E at Kettering General. Obivous to all the the baby wasn't well (crying, skin was red head to toe, ridiculously high temperature), mother was going out of her mind with fear only to be told she'd have to wait 2 hours to be seen because she hadn't been to the Nenedoc centre before she came to A&E! Then to make it worse they said if she had called an Ambulance they would of seen the baby straight away! Shocking!
samjohnson Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 I had an arguement with a GP not 6 week ago about money and "free" healthcare. He didnt know where to put his face when I asked him "where do you think all these taxes that I pay go to?".
FoxyPV Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Glad to hear the baby's ok. Surely the whole point of A+E is that you go there when you deem ithe situation to be either an accident or an emergency. On GPs - Ms Foxy's new practice is a ****ing joke - they don't open until 9 and close at 4.30pm. We asked for an emergency appointment for FoxyJr and they said the next one they had free was two days later!
Bert Posted 27 May 2011 Author Posted 27 May 2011 East midlands today have been round, so it's going to be on there tonight too. The mercury have had calls from national news agencies and papers regarding it all.

It's automated and they'll go to every person registered at that surgery who goes to A+E, hence why the letter was addressed to the baby. In their defence they have said that some people do need A+E attention however others do not, I think it's pretty safe to say that no one is claiming the baby did not need to go to A+E it is just an automated letter. Hopefully this case will make them look at who they are sending these letters to..
Bert Posted 27 May 2011 Author Posted 27 May 2011 This wasn't even the major complaint. The paediatrician said he didn't need to come round to check mother and baby before discharge as my brothers partner had taken antibiotics. They just wanted to get rid of them to make room for a new bed, nearly at the cost of Zac's life. To make the day worse, Chris Weale thought he'd hand Forest three points.

The four hour targets just resulted in hospitals turning ward space into medical assessment units, and A&E into a waiting room. This is clearly a bit of stupidity from the GP, and no offence to your family Bert, but the level of attention given to the story is way over the top if you have national media all over it.

It's raised the problems that can occur in certain hospitals and therefore made hospitals aware that they could face similar complaints and investigations. And also raised awareness of how meningitis can be seen therefore warning other parents of what could happen.

I'm sure you'd feel the same if your newborn was an hour away from death, with 6 doctors working on him to save his life when he was re-admitted and then receiving a letter like they'd received. You have no idea what they've been through. And if you must know, it's the media that had contacted them about the whole debacle.

Mate they have my every sympathy, and I am glad to hear the little guy is OK. I guess what is pretty clearly a generic letter can be quite offensive in the wrong circumstances. I am sure it was upsetting for them and they deserve the apology from the GP. Your comment about lack of Paediatric consultant review post natal is more worrying, as that may well have directly resulted in the severity of the situation. Post natal care in the NHS is frankly shit.

Post natal care in the NHS is frankly shit. It did result in the severity of it all. If he'd have been bothered to have come and done a 5 minute check up, maybe none of this would've happened.

I agree, I want more of this - http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article24301.ece
Jon the Hat Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 You know what wil happen though, what is a good idea badly managed by one GP will be canned because it gets in the press and somebody panics.
