Petchy Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 Still has 5 or so years left in him, so not exactly in the twilight of his career. Keepers are normally at their peak at this age and he looked as if he was whenever he played for Man City.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 id be happy with Given or Westwood, both have to be better than what we have already
Number 6 Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 I'd love to have Given here. He might be the kind of signing that would give us a bigger shout with some other potential signings. I'm not optimistic that it will happen though.
One Arm Babba Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 I wouldn't take the risk with Given. For a goalkeeper, his injury track record isn't great. Injuries are only going to occur more frequently as he gets older. We should be looking at younger options in my opinion. If he stayed injury free then he would be great, but, I don't see it happening anyway.
Adster Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 Not sure about this one, I know he is a top top keeper, but for the sake of the club I wouldn't want to be paying a keeper a massive massive wage when I see a better bargain in someone like Keiron Westwood who is a free, wouldn't cost a bomb a week in wages and is a top championship keeper.
johnp Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 shay given is on something around £4000000 per year, which works out at around £77000 per week... so £100000 per week sound about right as he wont accept less or the same as he is being paid now. And plus even Sven quoted he isnt paying that much for a keeper no matter how good he is

I'm sure we'd have to pay top whack but his wages are hardly going to increase if he decides that to get match tume he'll drop down. He'll accept less not more.

If he wanted to stay at city for his career and agreed a new contract, they would certainly increase his wages to tie him down. If he comes it's for playing time not a payday.
kyle09uk Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Given is a class act. End of. Given's Champions leage quality of the highest calibre. End of!
Hack Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 Getting Shay Given is highly unlikely. But if in the very small chance he decides to to be part of the Sven revolution at City, then it really signals the intent of the club to make a run at promotion. It will also be a sign to other players that this team is for real. Getting any Pemiership quality player here will signal intent and encourage other players and managers that this could be a decent endevour. The club need to inspire high class players that the risk coming tu us in the CCC is a low risk. Getting a Given or a Heskey could send that message to a number of Svens targets.
Callabinho Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 Best keeper since schmeicheal I agree, i think he is better than hart, but obviously he is Englands first choice! so he must play.
sphericalfox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Nail in the coffin on this one for sure from his reaction: BBC interview Given (not that it ever was a sure bet anyways and any form)
filou Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Nail in the coffin on this one for sure from his reaction: BBC interview Given (not that it ever was a sure bet anyways and any form) Did not say anything about not coming us just chill
stix Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Nail in the coffin on this one for sure from his reaction: BBC interview Given (not that it ever was a sure bet anyways and any form) I dont understand how you came to.that conclusion
MikeyT Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Don't think it's anything we didn't already know but: Fourth_Official Fourth Official Shay Given is in the dark about his future but says he'd be happy to stay with Man City. #MCFC
