enex Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Being linked with Shay Given again apparently us Villa and Celtic all want him dont think theres much truth in it though as sven has already said £100,000 a week for a keeper is far too high http://www.clubcall.com/celtic/hoops-keeper-deal-not-a-given-1218771.html http://www.click-manchester.com/sport/manchester-city/1213015-leicester-city-battle-celtic-fc-and-aston-villa-for-manchester-city-keeper-shay-given.html
Darkon84 Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Truth is, id rather have Westwood or Schmeichel! Given is STILL far superior to both of them. The real truth is.....he will probably end up at Celtic. He even said the other day that he would like to play for them.
bmt Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Think he's on c. £45k a week. Can't remember where it was but I read that the other day
Leicester_Loyal Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Given is much better than Westwood and Schmeichel. However I doubt he is on 100k a week.
Simo86 Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Think he's on c. £45k a week. Can't remember where it was but I read that the other day I read he was on 60k but that its just speculation, if only the company i work for did Man City's accounts!!! They sadly don't.
MikeyT Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Nah, he won't come here. I would love to see Schmeichel or Westwood here though, without question.
ajthefox Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Given would be better no doubt but either of the other two is a much more long term possibility. I highly doubt we'll get Given because there'll be better teams offering better wages, although 100k is way off the mark imo
Callabinho Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Of course he wont come here, hopefully because we are not stupid enough to burn 100.000 a week on his ages. a shock big name?
sdb Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Westwood would be just as good a signing, re: his age (and wages)
Narborough_fox Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Of course he wont come here, hopefully because we are not stupid enough to burn 100.000 a week on his ages. a shock big name? Wants to retire at Man City so I don't think he'll be moving any time soon.
David Guiza Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Just seen a poster called Truro on Bentleys Roof he claims we've signed Alex Smithies, I doubt it being as they've got a massive game on Sunday although I think he might be injured. But if it is true would be a cracking signing.

PABS81 Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 Schmechiel over Givenfor several reasons - 1. Younger am has good potential plus proven record at championship level and would progress well into premier and 2. I know we are supposed to have funds but let's face it given ain't played for an age and def ain't worth 45k a week let alone 100k!! But still just my opinion!
Jakemoore Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 Given would be better no doubt but either of the other two is a much more long term possibility. Aidy3 Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 personally i'd also prefer Westwood/Schmeichel to Given. Again its just for the age and potential reasons. Given's on his way out, couple of seasons max, the other two could have 10 seasons!
Mickey O'Neil Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 Celtic won't pay 60k p/w, let alone 100k. If Given wants a move there he'll seriously have to look at his wage demands. I seriously cannot see him coming here. If prem teams are interested in Westwood, again, I seriously can't see him coming here even if he's gonna be second choice. The perm is too big a pull for most players. I'm not being funny, but is Schmeichel THAT good? I honestly don't understand the raves over him. I'd be surprised if we pull off any of these signings.
LeeTheFox Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 Shay given is 35, much rather have a young, upcoming keeper!
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Shay given is 35, much rather have a young, upcoming keeper! But if he cost a couple of million with 50k a week wages would that be a bad signing? If we had Given in goal last season we probably would have made the play offs. Going up would mean a £40 million pound windfall for the club. Do the maths. I would still rather Westwood because he would be on a free and cost less in wages but make no mistake Given is still one of the best keepers in the British leagues. If we got Given I would still be ecstatic. Anyone who says different is a crazy fool.

phillthefox Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Given even at 35 would still be a great signing, van der sar 40 friedel 40 both top keepers, so given still has a few good seasons left, but i think as said before he will stay at city or go to prem team like arsenal. schmeichel is ok, think westwood is a better signing but again think both could be on way to prem..... BELIEVE IS SVEN !!!!!
