MikeyT Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/McClaren-calls-Forest-demonstrate-ambition/story-12927472-detail/story.html STEVE McClaren is so frustrated by the lack of transfer activity he is considering staying in England to help sign players instead of flying with his Nottingham Forest squad to a training camp in Portugal tomorrow. And the new Reds boss has called on the City Ground club to demonstrate its ambition for this season by wrapping up deals for the players on his wish-list. So far, only Andy Reid has arrived at the City Ground but Forest saw nine players depart at the end of last season after they lost out in the Championship play-offs for a second successive season. While the likes of Leicester City have been spending heavily, it has been quiet at the City Ground. And McClaren, who took over from the sacked Billy Davies last month, said it is time for Forest to put their cards on the table. "Other teams are showing their ambition, we need to start showing ours," he said. "It was important to go to Portugal to work on the team. At the moment, we are unable to do that, so that is frustrating. "Other teams are making signings and we were behind when we started. Now we are ten days further behind and it is not good. "We want a good start this season. We need to see players coming into the club. I didn't come here not to compete. "It is not about the manager, the facilities – it is about the players. Other teams are very active in the transfer market and who knows, in one or two days, we could have five or six here. That is what we are working towards. "The players we want, there is competition for them and we have to beat that competition. I am determined to get the right squad to give us a chance to go up. "There is no point in me coming here and being here unless they are the types of player that will give us a chance of promotion." It is the urgency to bring in new players that has left McClaren considering whether he should go to Portugal. He added: "I may have to stay here instead of going to Portugal with the team. That for me is a first in my career. I want to be with the team. "But my most important job at the moment is to ensure I assemble a squad that can compete for promotion with the top six in this league. "So I may have to stay behind to work with the chairman and Mark Arthur (chief executive) to ensure we get the right players in. "Believe me, I know how frustrated the fans are out there but a little bit of patience has to be shown by us all to eventually get the players we want."
Guest Bilo Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 Forest really must be a frustrating club to follow these days. It's almost as if they expect their history and a relatively high profile managerial appointment in McClaren to magically whisk them to the Premier League on freebies and loan signings. They slung money at Billy Davies a couple of seasons back and I remember pretty much everyone on here promoting them in January, had they provided Davies with more money the following season I have no doubt they'd be a Premiership club now. Definite lack of ambition from the Forest board it seems and the fact that McClaren is already publicly pointing out rather suggests that perhaps Davies wasn't quite the whiny little bitch everyone took him for.
Fox92 Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 Isn't it that system thing where the manager submits a list and they choose who the club sign? What the hell is that about? I'd be really angry if I was manager. Billy Davies did very, very well considering the funds and support he had.

RedHux Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 It's quite famously now known as The Transfer Acquisitions Panel of which Davies was a part. In reality however its no different to how loads of clubs operate. Manager tells board of player he wants, money men decide if they can afford him and if so they take it from there deciding wages and whatnot. The main on the pitch reason IMO we weren't promoted under Davies was his shocking tactics away from home. As you lot saw when last we played. So negative and when we went behind it was like an u12 game with everyone pushing up leaving the distribution to Chambers and Wes who with the best will in the world, aren't the most creative players we've got. We just gave points away week after week. ....and yes, it is bloody frustrating.
purpleronnie Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 Their side is pretty good, I'd expect them to be top 6 next season.
RedHux Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 We have 14 players with first team experience and 2 of those are goalkeepers. Unless someone pulls their finger out we won't be troubling the promotion places any time soon.
Nick Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 Get your excuses under the umbrella early doors - good work Steve
sdb Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 If you wanna fluff up the squad size we can almost certainly help you. We must have 30 players on our books atm, with a good few more still to come.

David Pleat is involved with that transfer committee so its hardly surprising that they cant sign anyone.
Corky Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 I want to believe they'll have a poor season but I can't, they'll probably do quite well.
MikeyT Posted 13 July 2011 Author Posted 13 July 2011 We should just give them some players. Neilson, Moreno, N'Guessan to start with?
John Matrix Posted 13 July 2011 Posted 13 July 2011 We should just give them some players. Neilson, Moreno, N'Guessan to start with? sounds fair. 1.5 for all three

That said Koncheskey was rubbish for us last year, your welcome to him. I think we'll be 5th - 10th this year. I expect your lot, WHU and Birmingham to be in the top 3.
sdb Posted 18 July 2011 Posted 18 July 2011 I reckon with 2 or 3 more signings Forest will be top 6. So will we i'd hope, but not confident of top 2 just yet. Maybe if Maynard arrives...
