smokey Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Was just wondering who everyone thinks , should be are captain for this season , so I made this topic I was thinking either Matt Mills or Richie Wellens as they are both great leaders on the pitch Exactly that, it has to be Mills or Wellens!
Charl91 Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Not Mills. Too much of a temper, and most of the reading fans thought he was a bad captain, judging from their forum (this was before the whole moving to leicester transfer saga, so no sour grapes there). Wellens for me, or maybe even Kasper, though I wouldn't mind if Oakley or King were still captain.
Ali_Mauchlens_Tash Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 I'd go with mills personally. Needs to be someone playing every week and I can see the midfieldd being rotated.
B52 Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 It has to be someone vocal, demanding and plays week in week out. I go with Mills for now.....
ajthefox Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Wellens hand down. I can't believe so many people are voting Mills, although I'm guessing many are basing that on very little other than what they have heard. For me it can't go to someone who hasn't played for us for a significant period of time, never mind not one competitive match. Captaincy has to be earned.
lcfcadam Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 This is a really difficult question. Obviously on paper Mills makes a huge amount of sense - CB, just captained a team to the play off final, clearly the sort of 'leader' you look for. But for me, when you look to the essence of this club, you look to Andy King - been here for years, seen good times and bad times, a bona-fide ever-present fixture of the Leicester. So it's essentially a choice between head (Mills) and heart (King). I suppose Sven gets paid to make these decisions so we'll just have to trust his decision...
foxes2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 dont think the captain really makes a masive difference anyway unless you have a Keane or Viera type, which we dont have.
Haydos Posted 25 July 2011 Posted 25 July 2011 Captain - Wellens Club Captain - King (Wellens is limited in years and Kingy has a great attitude and is a brilliant advert for the club, skippering at his age after coming through the academy with many years ahead of him.)
dpjfox Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 From reports of the pre-season friendlies it seems SSL has been very vocal ( something we have been missing since Brown), however the captain should be someone who will play every game when available ( Kasper/Mills), i can see the midfield being rotated either by resting players or change in formation, on that basis id go for Mills (has the experience and hopefully soon the respect of the players/staff/fans), hopefully with more experience in this squad we will be more "vocal" all over the pitch.
Dicko Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Usually I wouldn't want a new signing to come in as Captain, but by the time the season kicks off I would guess that 8/9 of our starting XI will be new signings, so this is a different situation. Matt Mills for me. He's a genuine leader at the back, he'll play every game, and he's got captaincy experience. Nothing against Andy King, he's a cracking player, but I don't really see him as a 'leader' and he never seems vocal enough for me. I think the armband would actually hold Wellens back a bit. I like him as he was in the second half of last season when he was getting stuck into everyone and fronting up to opposition players etc. I think he'd have to curb that side of his game a bit if he was Captain.
danlcfc4ever Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Wellens hand down. I can't believe so many people are voting Mills, although I'm guessing many are basing that on very little other than what they have heard. For me it can't go to someone who hasn't played for us for a significant period of time, never mind not one competitive match. Captaincy has to be earned. Same here! I don't think its right when a new signing comes in and is made captain immediately. Doesn't send the right message to the other players.
Darkon84 Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 I dont think King is vocal enough or enough of a leader. Id probably give it to Wellens this season, then Mills
martinrowland Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 I voted for Wellens, if Matt Mills struggles he won't exactly inspire confidence in to the team. Wellens is a consistent, reliable player and is also vocal on the pitch, perfect for the captains job.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 No question, in my mind. It has to be Matt Mills. He will be a brilliant captain, dominant, and vocal, a natural leader, who will inspire all around him.
