I also, cannot see any objectiveness in this topic, but to answer the question, no I am certain Sven does not regret it, with many bigger fish in the pond to catch.

Does Sven regret it? I don't know. He might not know. He might regret it though. Or he might not regret it.

That can easily change though. Take Steve Morison for example who jumped up to League 1 from non league and scored loads for Millwall, them scored a fair amount for them in the Championship last season and is now in the Premier League with Norwich.

I'd rather have Maynard or Long, but in my opinion, Mackail-Smith has the potential to be a decent/good Championship striker.

Whether he did or didn't pull out of this deal we do seem to be getting a little desperate for a striker now IMO.

Saying that don't believe CMS would have been the answer anyway.

Why wouldn't he? As it stands if Nugent gets injured on Saturday we are in a bit of doo-doo despite the strength of our midfield and defence.

It seems like clubs now know we are desperate for a quality striker and are going to make it quite clear that if we are going to get a Maynard or a Long (Long being incredibly overrated in my opinion, like somebody has already alluded too, has had one good season with Reading) then they are going to royally rip us off i.e Maynard at 5+ million and Long at 6+ million....shocking value for a Championship club i'm afraid.

So do I, as well all do, but I was using 'potential' because he is jumping up from a lower league.

Long has far more potential to make it in the Premiership in the longer term than CMS would have.

Give the abortive attempts to sign Maynard and the increasingly outrageous (and silly) prices being quoted for Long - and all the other failed (or not followed up) bids for other strikers - do people think that Sven might be regretting 'pulling out' (as reported) of his pursuit of CMS ? £3 million (I think that's what Brighton paid ?) seems a reasonable price for a proven goalscorer - and I bet he'll get a hatful of goals for them this season. It seems that we'll be paying (at least) twice as much, for someone who won't score many (or any !) more - and we shouldn't forget, that Mackail-Smith has a reputation for setting up just as many goals for other players.

PS No doubt there'll be a few on here, who'll be saying just the same, about the Yak !
