HEGGSY Posted 12 February 2012 Posted 12 February 2012 Anyone know anywhere that's hiring at the moment? Can't find anything on the net that will cater for my age group (16-18) I'm desperate to find a part time job as I only have to do Monday to Wednesday at college, for some people my age that might sound great, but I'd love a job that will enable me to just get a little cash in my pocket. I hate relying on my parents. Cheers

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 February 2012 Posted 12 February 2012 Cheers pal You'll have to wait ages for a phonecall off them if you do get an interview though, i waited possibly three weeks but it was worth it, not a bad hourly wage either.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 14 February 2012 Posted 14 February 2012 I've been out of work since September. Not claiming JSA as I'm living off (rapidly dwindling) redundancy money for now. The job market is ridiculously tough at the moment and I've been getting to final stage interviews and losing out to people with more experience. I wish I'd done an apprenticeship at 16 to be honest, rather than the degree route. I would have liked to start an apprenticeship now but as a graduate, while it's technically possible to get an apprenticeship, it's effectively impossible as the employer wouldn't receive funding for your training. Good luck to you. Fingers crossed that all will work out for you.
Bluefoxtim Posted 14 February 2012 Posted 14 February 2012 http://en-gb.lionbridge.com/global-crowdsourcing/jobs/internet-assessors.htm I'm doing this at the minute and I think it's fairly likely that you'd get the gig. Ideal.
Rincewind Posted 14 February 2012 Posted 14 February 2012 Not bi-lingual. Looked good until I read the first paragraph. Never had the opportunity of A/C levels or GSCE when I left school. Only the top forms took them or grammar schools. Never occurred to me to try for other jobs when in my early years and I was in my first place 30 years and reasonablly secure It was only when redundancy came at just over 50 that I thought about my past chances. Although I did do a couple of night courses in relation to interests.. Updated my CV today at Connextions. Printed two jobs off at the jobcentre and wrote a tel no. down from a job agencey. Will check them out later. One is for night traffic warden. (think its night, advertized before) one security at the Haymarket and tel one is at S. Wigston Data entry/sorter nights midnight-8am Trouble is my time is now taken up with my interests and not looking forward to working for a boss again but my survival and income has to take prority. Cant wait until I qualify for pension credits. Work sucks.

Nicobonibus Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 you tried bosworth hall hotel? They are always taking people on for waiter/porters ect.. min wage.. i worked there for four years people their are nice and easy to get on with.. worth a shot?
MikeyT Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 No luck over here. My job search is ridiculous, got nothing. I live in a small town, there is nothing at all. So, I look into Sheffield and Doncaster etc but still no luck. I've applied for many jobs but no luck, and, no reply. I finished college in July and got the best results I could have, I pushed myself so hard. I didn't apply for university and I think I have made a massive mistake there. So, with no job, I can't afford a car etc Its horrible having no job, seriously. I hear you brother.

Ideal. Im just wondering if a 15 about to turn 16 year old can do that alongside A-levels and stuff. My brother is looking but struggling like the OP did and I may send him the link.
Rincewind Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Doing a Office Skills course atm (see how was your day) Could lead to something as they keep in touch after. The headline in the Mercury today says the dole queue has gone up 1200 in a month in Leicester. Businesses are cutting down on staff not increasing and those hiring have loads of applicants for one position. Applied for a job Tuesday. Not even had an acknowedgement. The email addy I use for appliying has had no job alerts for about a week. Its tough for all unemployed atm.
Daggers Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I remain confident in my decision to quit my job in the middle of this recession. Who needs money anyway?
Rincewind Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Only trhing I'm worried about is if I get a job and it doesn't work out for some reason. Will I get JSA again? The jobcentre would like me to take any job. I know the DEA is trying to help but I'm getting more stressed out by it now, worried that I'll take the first job offered even if it may not be the best for me. Not sure if I want to do security again but I'm applying for the jobs for them when they come up. Hoping the course I'm doing may lead to spomething. It is free and the ones doing it run it like a business, they do catering, and cleaning services so sometimes have vacancies and the tutor today said they were keen to get people into work. They are called Tomorrow together if anyone wants to look them up. One thing I did notice, the majority taking the class are non-white (Asian?) womenThey are either more eager to find work or have better information than others. Their place is next to the cathedral in St Martins.
