Raw Dykes Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Man Utd were impressive today, but Arse-anal were pathetic. Man City really look to be very close to becoming a top, top side, and I expect them to seriously challenge Man Utd for the title this season. I expect MCFC to overtake MUFC properly as the dominant force in the PL as soon as Fergie is no longer in charge at Old Trafford, which can't be too far off, surely? Chelsea and Liverpool should finish off the top four. It will be interesting to see what happens to Arse-anal. I think they can already forget Champions League for next season. Will they finish top half?
shen Posted 28 August 2011 Posted 28 August 2011 Well i hope people can see my point in the OP after todays 8-2 win, they were exceptional...the football at times was as good as barcelona...this is a new manchester united team, but i fear that this one is miles ahead of the last generation...only man city can compete in the domestic league. No frickin way, they were ordinary. Consistently ordinary as somebum puts it
Charl91 Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 I think 1. Man City 2. United 3. Liverpool 4. Chelsea For the top 4 finish

Will they finish top half? Arsenal did seem pathetic, but their stats actually tell a different story. 19 shots, with 13 being on target! Not bad for a loss like that. Can;t really put my finger on it how they lost so bad and played so bad yet still managed to muster up all them attempts at goal !
The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 I'd say that this Man Utd team looks to be the strongest and most exciting going forward since the Cole and Yorke era. I do enjoy watching them, and fair play to Fergie for getting a load more English players! Wish other managers would take note.
Mikey Posted 29 August 2011 Posted 29 August 2011 Ferguson is an unbelievable manager. The way he can dismantle great teams and build them up to be another great team with a few signings is second to none. Something that Wenger has not managed to do.

Wenger had to rebuild his side after his first double in 1998, signing quality players like Campbell, Pires and Henry to replace Adams, Overmars and Anelka. But the arrival of Abramovich (and now Sheikh Mansour) has raised the bar somewhat. United have been able to adapt to this. Arsenal haven't.

Man Utd etc have repeatedly broken their wage structure to accommodate the like of Rooney et al throwing a hissy fit and threatening to leave whereas Arsenal have followed a sound business model and suffered for it. PL football is a really fucked up place.

Like for like.
leicesterisme Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Uh what? Scholes and Brown leave, Jones and Young come in. Like for like. Think he means the amount of English players he's got in his squad e.g. Welbeck, Carrick, Rooney, Smalling, Young, Jones, Cleverley, Ferdinand and Owen.
Yojoe36 Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Never have, and never will like Manchester United. Nor will I ever get in a debate with any of their "fans", as they know absolutely f*** all about football. (The majority anyway) However, I like the fact that their putting players like Welbeck and Cleverly in the first team. And to be honest, they play good football. I'd put my money on Man City doing well though.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 United look great atm and it is particularly enjoyable seeing so many young English players establishing themselves in the team. Wouldn't jump to any conclusions about where the Prem trophy will be heading just yet though..remember the start Chelsea had last season only to crumble and end up winning **** all. Can't really see that happening to Manu but it could all come down to who wins out in the Manchester derby games. Should be an amazing season whatever happens anyway.
Jiggers the Fox Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 Nice to see Cleverley making a real impact in the first team. Always rated him when he was here.
shailen Posted 30 August 2011 Author Posted 30 August 2011 All the english players making an impact for united makes me optimistic for the euros!
Mikey Posted 30 August 2011 Posted 30 August 2011 A midfield of Cleverley and Wilshire for England has real technical ability. Coupled with Jones and Smalling/Rio at the back, and Rooney and Welbeck up top. Great spine.
shailen Posted 30 August 2011 Author Posted 30 August 2011 ..............................hart................... Smalling........jones.....rio/terry.....a.cole..... ...................cleverly....gerrard....................... Wilshere................rooney...................a.young ..............................welbeck............................. Team for euro 2012!

Cleverley has played 3 times for United; let's not get carried away. The likes of Parker or (gulp) Barry will give us more guile, experience and defensive nous. We won't get anywhere without a balanced side. For what it's worth, for the upcoming matches I'd be looking at trying out something like this: Hart Smalling Jones Terry Cole Parker Cleverley (Wilshere's injured) Walcott Rooney Young Bent I'd probably try and squeeze Gerrard in for Walcott when he's fit.
