Can someone fill me in

I was at the Cov game. A good win and a promising performance. I was thinking that if we could play like that every week, we should be top 6.

Then early on Saturday the 13th, I went on holiday to Turkey for 10 days. My only way of finding out about LCFC was the scores running along the bottom of the terrible eurosport channel on the hotel TV (Internet for minimum 1 hour was too dear to pay for 15 mins reading FT & Match reports).

So I hear we get beat by Reading at home, and then by Bristol City in a few days, and then throw away a 2-0 lead at Forest. My face was literally > :o

I got back yesterday and so I am looking for summarised answers to the following:

- How well did we play in the 3 games I missed. Did we deserve to lose? Which players stood out as good or otherwise? i.e. What the fcuk went wrong?

- I have never seen Pantsil play, how was he? Would you prefer him over Konch or Pelts?

- I have seen people discussing the diamond formation? Did we use it and was it any good?

- Has there been any further progress in signing a striker? As you can imagine I can't be arsed to trawl through 50 more Maynard threads. On the subject, how did Maynard play for BC against us (Am aware he scored twice but how was his performance?)

Now I'm back and going to the Southampton game, I'm sure we can beat them.

Thanks in advance.

Maynard was very good against us, missed a penalty as well and generally was too good for our defence... Very strong rumours that we're close to signing him, would imagine it will happen now.

Pantsil's better than Pelts IMO, Peltier's very good, but you can see Pantsil's a class above, if you get me.

Nugent and Kasper for me have been the standout performers.

This, I don't want to set people off again but I think theyll all agree with me when I say, the ref at forest was absolutely awful and the decision that led to their penalty was shambolic and that we didn't deserve to draw and overall that forest our quite a poor side

Reading was abysmal, Bristol was much better although a long way off the standard I believe will get us into a promotion situation. 2 defensive lapses cost us for their two goals. Forest was a vast improvement on Bristol, and although the ref was shocking, schmichael's all too familiar 'throwing his toys out the pram' actions didn't help. If we continue or improve on the forest performance we should be there or there abouts.

Nugent is excellent, by far the best signing so far.

Schmichael really needs to stop moaning and encourage, although his goalkeeping skills look sound

Not sure who is better between mills and st ledger

Koncheskey looks ok

Fernandes looks like the workhorse we needed, with skill as well!

Think danns will prove a big asset

Schlupp made his league debut in left mid (only sven knows why) against one of the stronger teams in the division, so was pretty ineffective, would love to see him play in his preferred role

Cool, didn't know that Schlupp played. Was the left mid as part of the diamond?

Two things...

1. Dont coincide your holiday with the start of the season.. Then you wouldn't have to miss these games

2. Don't they do English newspapers in turkey? Where were you staying?

In a nutshell, performance against Reading was woeful, against Brizzle we were better, against F*rest, especially 1st half, we were impressive - used a diamond from the off, and it looks like the ideal formation for our squad. If we just look at the last three league games, then we're definitely improving, and quickly.

Standout performers - Schmeichel, Bamba, Pantsil, Fernandes and Nugent. Most of the team were good at the shitty ground, but Konchesky was average and faded in the 2nd half, and King was mostly uninvolved.

I'd be happy with a point off Soton - they're in great form, and there's been too much pressure on us at home, but there have definitely been glimpses of a quality side in our squad, and I think it should all come together pretty soon.

As for the new striker - no news of any substance. Waghorn, Howard and `Kermorgant look to be leaving soon, so I suppose you could take that as a strong sign that Sven is confident there'll be a replacement or two.

And most importantly everybody's arguing with each other on the Nicky Maynard thread...check it out it's very funny.

Spermogantt has been supreme in his total absence, well said Jackirius.

i couldnt actually make out what system we played, although it was supposed to be 433, looked very much like nugent up front on his own though. dont actually think the players knew where they were supposed to be either! he just looked unsure where and what he was supposed to do. he has scored 4 in our cup games though :scarf:
