Smudge Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Not at work, never had a problem before, that doesn't work. DNS How to change DNS Settings
davieG Posted 27 October 2011 Author Posted 27 October 2011 How to change DNS Settings Is it the same for Vista Thanks but surely that can't be the problem, how will it help?
Houdini Logic Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 There is a bigger question to be answered here, why would you possibly want to go on the OS
danny. Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Davie, your ISP (BT, virgin, talktalk, sky etc. whoever you use) has a system called DNS servers which look up what IP address a certain website is - but like the BT paper phone book, if the address they have for lcfc.com is wrong then it won't be able to find the server the site runs off, so it won't work. The 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are google's DNS servers which generally always work, so manually setting these normally fixes DNS-related problems.
Smudge Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Is it the same for Vista Thanks but surely that can't be the problem, how will it help? Ok don't mess with them then. have you tried using a different Browser?
danny. Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 on the link smudge suggested, the 2nd option using notepad might be easier so.. 1) open notepad 2) file > open 3) paste in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts 4) add this line to the bottom: 84.53.132.74 www.lcfc.com 5) file > save 6) restart your browser
davieG Posted 27 October 2011 Author Posted 27 October 2011 It works in Firefox but I've never had a problem with Chrome before. I do use Sky and I believe the IP address is random - can that be the case?
danny. Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 It works in Firefox but I've never had a problem with Chrome before. I do use Sky and I believe the IP address is random - can that be the case? use firefox then! it's nothing to do with your IP address (which will be random), the problem might be finding which IP address the lcfc.com website is running on edit: many moons ago when I used windows PCs I used to use chrome and actually had quite a lot of problems of sites not loading in it, but they would load in firefox etc. There was some option in there called 'website prefetching' or similar that I had to turn off and from then on everything worked - no idea if it's this though, was a few years ago.
davieG Posted 27 October 2011 Author Posted 27 October 2011 There is a bigger question to be answered here, why would you possibly want to go on the OS I was trying to research some historical information but I've given up now.
davieG Posted 27 October 2011 Author Posted 27 October 2011 Ok I'll settle for Firefox now as it's not that important to take up all of your time and effort. Thanks for your help.
Smudge Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Player isn't working for me, anyone else having a problem?
nothin2seehere Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 on the link smudge suggested, the 2nd option using notepad might be easier so.. 1) open notepad 2) file > open 3) paste in: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts 4) add this line to the bottom: 84.53.132.74 www.lcfc.com 5) file > save 6) restart your browser Not the best advice I've ever seen! C:\Users\me4>nslookup 84.53.132.74 84.53.132.74: Non-existent domain lcfc.com is: C:\Users\me>nslookup www.lcfc.com Non-authoritative answer: Name: a1963.g.akamai.net Addresses: 2.20.183.184 2.20.183.168 Aliases: www.lcfc.com www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk cp73509.edgesuite.net Edit: none of those IPs get me anywhere near lcfc.com either. Not sure what's going on On the same topic, I can get www.nationwide.co.uk fine in Internet Explorer, but not in Google Chrome. Now that's irritating
frankiesgrandad Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 Me .. tried several times and this is first success
DB11 Posted 27 October 2011 Posted 27 October 2011 I reckon you're all getting way too technical for an issue like this. Just try turning the computer off and on again!
