Ozwin Posted 8 November 2011 Posted 8 November 2011 I want one but I don't want to spend the extortionate amounts Apple want for an iPad. There are millions of choices out there by brands I've never heard of and I'm sure half of them are rubbish but there must be a diamond in the rough somewhere? I just want one to browse the net, read books and comics and watch/stream videos. Oh yeah and it has to look decent haha, I have a bit of a thing about my gadgets.
21st Century Fox Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 If thats all you want to do it might be worth waiting for the new Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, they're only going to cost $199 in the U.S. so could be relatively cheap over here (but they'll probably just change the $ to a £ and keep it the same ) The Samsung ones are pretty good but they're still pricey. I'm sure theirs some decent budget type ones, you just need to choose whether you prefer Android or Windows.
Ozwin Posted 9 November 2011 Author Posted 9 November 2011 Is the Fire coming out over here though? I heard there's loads of data protection issues or something in the EU so it's going to be tricky. It's perfect as well.
danny. Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 iPad is best if you already have an iPhone, a Mac etc. it integrates brilliantly with other Apple products and the build quality is excellent etc. If you don't then you might just find it a pain and would be better going for an Android based device which would also be a bit cheaper, although stuff like the galaxy tab isn't any cheaper. As someone said amazon are bringing out a very cheap tablet (like their kindle e-reader, but a full tablet that will play video etc) soon so worth waiting a few months
nuttytimmy Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Galaxy tabs are great, but also costly. The Fire looks like a decent prepostition if you're happy to wait.
HEGGSY Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 My friend has this tablet. Tbh I was a bit skeptical because it's a chinese tablet however I was shocked at how responsive and bright the screen is seems brill for the price though. About 120 if converted to ££ http://m.lightinthebox.com/index.php?page=item_detail&item_id=231405 The whole thing with tablet pc's is research if you do so properly you'll get a bargain if not you'll get a cheap unusable one that will break after a few hours But as nuttytimmy says the amazon kindle fire looks fantastic for the price.
Haydos Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Hear good things about the Kindle Fire. Especially for $200, looks a bargain.
Ozwin Posted 9 November 2011 Author Posted 9 November 2011 As I say, it's not even certain to come out over here. I like the look of the Motorola Xoom cos it's sleek and sexy as feck but it's pricey. I had an iPhone so don't really want an iPad because they'll be basically the same if that makes sense? I'd like an Android one because apparently they're quite good for customization and shiz and I fancy trying it out because I never have. Basically I don't want to spend too much on one but it has to be super terrific awesome.
21st Century Fox Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Apparently Amazon have to wait to agree deals with media outlets over here before they can release it because its pretty much based entirely around their app store and streaming service. So pretty much the same reason we don't get anything decent over here (Hulu!!)

So pretty much the same reason we don't get anything decent over here (Hulu!!) Apparently Amazon are going to sell the new Kindle so cheaply they wont make anything on the hardware at all but they'll coin it with all the software, won't be available on general sale in the UK for several months yet but if your in no hurry it's going to be a good deal and from what I've seen and heard well worth the wait!

Yeah I read something similar that its the same principle as games consoles and games, where they're selling them at a loss and covering the cost with apps and content. They've also got a cloud feature with it, so you don't need to store physically store your content. That'll be pretty good if they can tie up enough deals for worthwhile content.
Wycombe Fox Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 I've just ordered two Zenithink ZT280 C91's from a website in China. I was a bit sceptical, especially when I was given a tracking number that wasn't recognised by DHL. However, I was given another number and the goods are in Southampton awaiting delivery on Monday. The two together, with a folding case and keyboard for each one, including delivery, worked out to £136 each. On the face of it, they appear to be amazing value and the reviews I've read seem all good, as do the youtube vids. I got them from here http://product.madeinchina.com/10-2-zenithink-zt280-c91-Android-2-3-Capacitive_13192774.shtml Will reply again once I've used mine a few times.
Wycombe Fox Posted 29 November 2011 Posted 29 November 2011 Tablet PC I've been using this for a week now and I have to say I'm really impressed. It cost £136 including a keyboard case and shipping. I was a bit sceptical at first but the whole transaction was totally painless. Only six working days from order to delivery. The tablet comes with a fair bit of pre-loaded software i.e office suites, maps, GPS navigation, some games (including Angry Birds) and is so easy to set-up and connect to the internet. The internet is pretty fast too with easy access to the Android market for more apps. I bought it mainly to use for work. I visit building sites and need to take drawings with me so now I just load them onto the tablet, open the drawings and just zoom in. Saves carrying, unfolding and re-folding piles of drawings, especially when it's windy. I'm getting about 4½ hours constant use from a full charge. Any other info required?
Jackirius Posted 29 November 2011 Posted 29 November 2011 Can anyone reccommend an E Reader, very cheap. Only thing i need it for is too read books, maybe internet. Must have long battery life.
21st Century Fox Posted 30 November 2011 Posted 30 November 2011 Can anyone reccommend an E Reader, very cheap. Only thing i need it for is too read books, maybe internet. Must have long battery life. Kindle's only £89 and the battery can last for a month from a single charge.
Jackirius Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Kindle's only £89 and the battery can last for a month from a single charge. Only £89, shoot, thought they were a lot more than that. What's this new one coming out that i've heard of? Will it be out before Christmas?
HEGGSY Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Only £89, shoot, thought they were a lot more than that. What's this new one coming out that i've heard of? Will it be out before Christmas? The one selling for £89 is the newest kindle e-reader. The newest Kindle model is the Amazon Kindle Fire which is an e-reader but it's main function is as an Android tablet, used more for games, web browsing, document viewing (word, excel ect) and that is not out before Xmas and when it does come out it will be around £200. For what you need, as mentioned in your OP, I would just get the kindle e-reader it's a bargain at £89 Tablet PC's... I find that hard to swallow.

Wycombe Fox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I just want one to browse the net, read books and comics and watch/stream videos. Surely something more than a Kindle is required to browse the net and watch/stream videos. Tablet PC's... I find that hard to swallow. Very good
Rincewind Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 The more you want to do with it the higher up the price scale you'll have to go. I bought my Ereader before I knew about the cut price Kindle. Just saw it and thought I always wanted one of those. Compulsive buy. Kindles were over£100 then. Now same price as I paid for mine. I am able to put music and videos on. Tried to add more books, had about a dozen on got a message saying the memory was full. I took the vid that I had on and now added another 20 or so books. Cant find the info about thememory or instructions although they are on the reader. I have Calibre on my PC and small laptop. All transferred from my PC and around 8000 books on my small laptop. Some foreign some duplicates. May take a while to read them all.
sphericalfox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 You check out Morphy Richards new Tablet. Cheaper than all the rest!

HEGGSY Posted 30 January 2012 Posted 30 January 2012 Bump. Just thought I'd add this in. http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/blackberry-playbook-tablet-pc-16-gb-10647929-pdt.html Reduced from £400 to £169. Not the best tablet in terms of apps but is good for web dowsing, document reading ect. For those who have a BB phone, it might be good
