Pearson will buy right

Nigel Pearson appears to be very considerate when operating in the transfer market and judging by the players we’ve been linked with, I think he’s still pretty astute at it too.

For me, our main problems lay in the defence and around the midfield. We’ve shown, (Forest) that our midfield can penetrate teams when there’s movement and fluidity in there but there’s no doubt about us needing to strengthen in that area.

Yuki Abe was the only recognised midfielder on our bench Tuesday night, I think that says enough.

Danny Drinkwater looks set to join us and brings with him a lot of promise. This I feel could be a great purchase but it is the other player linked with us today that has pleasantly surprised me.

Forest’s Wes Morgan has emerged as a target and this defender, who is well loved by the Forest faithful, could well be the answer to our main issue. Defending.

Matt Mills has put in one or two steady displays but he’s no where near the £5million pound man we all expected. His distribution is ‘iffy’ at best and the bloke hasn’t really lead by example for the majority of his debut season here as captain.

Sol Bamba is another with a massive question mark for me. His positional sense is poor at best and his naivety has been overshadowed for most City fans because of the odd surging run he makes, a role that excites many but takes me back to my first flaw of the bloke.

The Tunch is a quality act and the only problem he faces is fitness. Once he’s back up to speed he’ll be our main man but who to partner him is the issue.

Morgan is big and strong, just as Bamba and Mills are but this feller seems to have a bit more nouce about him. His tough tackling and dominance in the air will tick all our defensive boxes and he’ll get his fans with the problems he can cause in the opposition box too.

For me it’s a yes please Nigel. This could be an interesting couple of weeks for City and if Pearson continues on the radar he appears to be on, I don’t think we’ll go too far wrong this year.

Whilst it's frustrating to have had to wait so long for a signing, it's comforting to know we're not being held to ransom. Sven was willing to spend silly money, Pearson's approach is much more considered.

I really hope this nonsense of "Premier League at the first opportunity or bust" is thrown out the window and Pearson is given a couple of years to cultivate a side. I think I speak for a lot of fans in saying that a few years at this level making steady progress and building a team we can grow to love would be as pleasing as throwing money at going up, getting up and coming down again or missing out and sacking another manager.

We do not need Wes Morgan.

If Wes Morgan is better than what we already have then sign him up, the OP is right in saying that our centre backs are good, but there are question marks over each of them. We haven't managed to develop a strong centreback pairing so I would be happy to see another CB at the club, as long as he is an improvement on what we have.

To be honesy I don't know much about Wes Morgan, but he may be the leader at the back we need.

We are crying out for wingers.

Lloyd can only do so much, he needs help from the right side and also true competition on the left.

We need genuine width.

Good Post,

I'm sure there are a good few more players out on loan we could acquire like Drinkwater.

Pearson will get it right, he always does, every club he has been to he has left them in a far better position than when he took over.

I just hope he gets the time.....I'm dreading a few bad results towards the end of the season and more Sven's being sacked after Euro 2012.

I agree with your comments about Mills' performance - too often he is tempted to simply hoof the ball long, and more often than not, he doesn't even get it in the vicinity of the player he's aiming for (although I have noticed he's gotten slightly better at his long ball game in the last few games). If he is working on this as I suspect, but it isn't working for him in a given game he should stick to simple passes out of defence in order to retain possession. I do think, though that if he had been signed for £1-2mil the fans in general would be more than happy with his performance overall - his pricetag isn't his fault, and is a symptom of us having to overpay teams since everyone knows we have the cash to spend.

In my opinion Bamba has been an excellent bit of business - sections of the crowd seem to question his flamboyance in his defensive duties, but I would say that this has reduced ALOT under Pearson, and even when it was more prevelant, it doesn't cause added problems 9 times out of 10. I disagree with your comments about his positioning... time and time again he will look as if he is the wrong side of his man or 2-3 yards off the pace, but his go-go gadget legs will either catch up with the man, or stick a well-timed challenge in to steal the ball.

Please tell me Wes Morgan didn't play against us .... their centre halves were appalling.

No been injured for a while.

Been at Forest for 10yrs, was the lynch-pin of all of Billy Davies relative success there during their promotion season & their successive playoff appearances before Davies was laughably sacked for McLaren.

This is exactly my point regarding Bamba. Good defenders don't need to make well timed, last ditch challenges. Good positional sense means they don't have to.

Phew!!! Thanks!

We still need replacements for gally and dyer. Drink water will be good with danns midfield.

Mabye mills and Morgan at the back. A few wingers and we should start winning games.

I think he will buy right as well. I said before that I don't want Pearson to dive in with buying players. Ok, I have also been frustrated with lack of signings, but, I'd rather Pearson wait and get the right player.

But on the subject of transfers, we need two wingers.

Please tell me Wes Morgan didn't play against us .... their centre halves were appalling.

One of them was a midfielder.
