Webbo Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 I'm thinking of buying this book for someone I know to try and boost their self confidence. Has anyone ever tried self hypnosis for any reason? Does it work? Are there better books available?
Ric Flair Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 I'm thinking of buying this book for someone I know to try and boost their self confidence. Has anyone ever tried self hypnosis for any reason? Does it work? Are there better books available? Self hypnosis does indeed work, but don't give up if you lose confidence with what you're doing. Stick at it. Do some research on techniques as well as what this book has to offer. I am a fully qualified hypnotherapist, so any questions give me a shout.
21st Century Fox Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Isn't hypnotherapy based on how susceptible you are to being hypnotised. If you want to be hypnotised you probably will be but if you're sceptical about it chances are you won't. So it would depend on what the person you're buying it for is like.

It's not actually for me, but I did wonder if I could try it (self hypnosis)to stop me swearing so much when I've had a drink?
ajthefox Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 That's certainly how I see it. I've read one of Paul Mckenna's books and most of it was garbage, it's almost like a placebo in that if you genuinely believe it'll work, then you might actually change. I read it not with a closed mind exactly, but a very sceptical one and found it made fvck all difference.
cambridgefox Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 i can make my right arm fall to sleep by lying on it before i go on a one man mission to wanksville!

Houdini Logic Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Always a sceptic and still kind of am, but I was hypnotised about a year ago. Very strange experience - I knew I could easily not do what he said but I did it anyway for some unknown reason. Unexplainable.

Very strange experience - I knew I could easily not do what he said but I did it anyway for some unknown reason. Unexplainable. I was hypnotised on stage once and when I was under and doing everything he told me to do, the hypnotist accidently dropped his fob watch and shouted "shit" . I was very uncomfortable for the rest of the evening
