NeilyBoy Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 I find the N word disgusting, and that includes when black people use it themselves with an 'a' at the end of it. All that does is legitimise its usage among white racists because the response becomes 'that's how they talk to each other, so why can't I do it?' So, so true. I'm ashamed to admit I was one of those white guys thinking that when I was at school.
Zingari Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 Being called a stupid fat drunken bastrad quite often in your local pub could be quite offensive and hurtful. edit; I would imagine .
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 "Nottingham F****t are winning" i find very offensive
foxfanazer Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 One of my mates calls all foreigners Stavros for some reason?
RonnieTodger Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 How can you say that the words "Paki" and "Nigger" are on a different level to "Chink"? They're still derogatory and they demean their race. I think the reason we find them more offensive are that I'm sure a lot of us have Asian and black friends but how many far-eastern friends do we have? It might be that for example, Chinese people tend to stick to their own groups and have only moved here recently and don't often mix or befriend English people. You often see far-eastern people in their own groups with people of the same race. Obviously that's not the case 100% of the time. I myself don't have any Chinese or Japanese friends I'm 1/4 Chinese and don't find the word "Chink" offensive as I don't really consider myself to be Chinese. I've never been there and probably never will, and my Chinese family emigrated to England and USA, so there isn't really a reason to. In fact, my friends and I often joke about my Chinese background. My Grandma is Chinese and I don't want to ask her if she finds the word "Chink" that offensive. However, I'm sure it's in the same way offensive to her as the word "Paki" would be to a Pakistani. As Finnegan said it's the ignorance that makes it worse, also. Obviously, we're not to know which country they're directly from by looking at them, but what gives us the right to assume so and demean them for it? I do make "racist" stereotypical jokes from time-to-time but they're far from demeaning I'd say. PC has almost driven it so far back that it's annoyed people into becoming even more racist, but I CBA to go into that.
Captain... Posted 24 March 2012 Posted 24 March 2012 I find the N word disgusting, and that includes when black people use it themselves with an 'a' at the end of it. All that does is legitimise its usage among white racists because the response becomes 'that's how they talk to each other, so why can't I do it?' But that is what gives the word its power, even that you have to write the N word instead of nigger, by treating this word with such fear and reverence as a decent memeber of society who would never use that word in a negative way, you are still contributing to the power and mystique of this word. Basically it has become a weapon to use against black people, they have tried to claim it back with the whole "niggah" thing but it still remains such a powerful word and that will hold back any chance of of equality when this one word can cause so much offense and has so much power and there is no adequate verbal response to it.
