Phone Problem- Help needed

You should have an option to switch off data transfers, and switch off WiFi. So there is no way you can use up your data. I would also uninstall all apps add then check the settings no the apps you remain. I have the guardian any time app which downloads the newspaper in the middle of the night so I can read it no train without internet access. But it is only set to download when connected to WiFi.

Had my phone replaced by the Carphone Warehouse on Tuesday. Still ****ed.used 75 mb in one minute, accessing one internet browser window. Carphone Warehouse don't want to know. I want rid of the phone, not have it replaced or repaired again

If I was you I'd cut my losses and get rid of the phone. Older HTC phones are poor at best, they're better now but the earlier stuff just isn't very good. People I know who have the Desire HD and they all have numerous problems like Sim Card regularly disconnect, terrible battery, SD card disconnects, using a lot of data. I had the original desire and hated it, looking forward the the S3 announcement next week for my next phone

Since I had the new phone as of Tuesday I haven't downloaded any apps so I know that this isn't the cause.

I'm trying to get rid of the phone. Had a phone call off the Carphone Warehouse today after taking it to the next level. I now have my own bloke looking into it fighting my corner and a direct phone number to his desk. (and its not an 0870 number)

He's back in on Monday but says in these circumstances I should easily be able to get a new/different phone. The battery life is woeful on the HTCs. I have to charge it twice a day.

So, which i phone is the most recommended? I know nothing about them really!

Not a mobile problem but quite a few days over the last few weeks I have been having a call on my home number and getting nothing on the other end. I have tried 1471 for the last number and its a 0845 number. Shall have to remember the rest next time. Don't want to call back because it could be a call centre flogging something. But I thought they never gave a return number.

Rate my Apple iPhone 4 - bit marmite though - I know people who love the Samsung Galaxy S II

Ok so I had exactly the same problem and here was my solution. If it's an android based phone you need to check what is being synced. If. Picasso is one of them then disabled it as all the pictures and videos are constantly being synced with picasso which obviously uses a lot of data. Go to settings> accounts and sync> your Gmail account > untick sync picasso web albums.

This is what was causing my data to go over the limit after 2 or 3 days

Hope this helps

go to xda or Android central forums properly something already on there or raise an article there always happy to help on there.

My suggestion would be using a home screen widget to turn off network data usage over night, and back on when you need it. you won't use data if it's off.

Your predicament is shocking never the less possible hard ware fault I'd you've tried everything

Just checked. There are 4 or 5 others having the same number. They ask for someone ficticious then talk about consolidating a loan (one says) but they normally ask for a false name. My phone just goes silent. Clicked the report button. Like one said strange to call from a premium number if they want a call back. I certainly wasn't.

I've got an Xperia Ray and I like it, the screen is really good, and the battery lasts 2+ days if I'm careful. Only thing is some people find it a bit small; there are others like the Arc which are bigger.

Can't argue with that. Battery life is terrible and also charging it up to twice a day on some days. Such a ballache. I've had the SD card disconnecting after charging, but soon realised that if I've connected it to the disk drive on my PC (to transfer files), I have to change the option from Disk Drive to 'Charge Only' so that the SD card can be 'found' again. Definitely considering changing from HTC once my contract is up.

I've also got a Desire HD and on occasions for some months, I've had the same data-related problem. I'm on Orange, and before signing up to the contract I did enquire about data usage and how likely it is that I'll go over 500mb. They said it's extremely unlikely unless I'm on the internet for the majority of the day for most days in the month. They also told me that even with regular usage (random google searches, updates for sports etc) it's unlikely the 500mb will run out. But on some occasions I've had to ring up Orange and convince them that I've barely used the internet or data connections (even with apps stopped and app/internet connections turned off) - luckily they've credited my account of how much I've gone over my bill whenever it's occurred.

I have wondered in the past if the networks activate things on your phone to use up your data to rinse more money out of you!

I was speaking to my brother yesterday about data usage on mobiles. Both he and I have the same phone (HTC Desire) but on different networks (I'm Vodafone, he's Orange).

We both get 500mb per month. For him this is plenty. For me, it always gets rinsed despite almost never using it off Wi-Fi and being prudent with the auto-update setting etc.

He tells me that all of his mates who are on Vodafone have the same problem, whereas all his other mates on other networks are fine with their data allowances. He reckons that Vodafone either blatantly lie about how much you've used or they activate functions over the network that use up data.

Any other Vodafone users got an opinion on this?
