Looking for a job?

Went to job centre today. They've changed things for me. Instead of seeing an advisor every fortnight I go to the front desk. Now it's saa sheet of paper with spaces for job searches instead of the booklet. If there are any repeats or negative feedback they can stop my money so it means I have to apply for jobs that I do not have the qualifications for just to make the form look right.

Re Desford. I sent an email asking about flexibility with hours and all they done was noted it and said they had put on the records that I was available for work.

Got an application form for Aldi but the nearest store is Rugby. They want temporary min 20 hours leading possibly to full time. The hours are flexible soI'd be happy to stay on part time. Think the buses are better to Rugby than Desford and there is a train that goes there although don't know if it's straight through.

I have the City one to send off. Have to do three a week but doubt I'll be lucky enough to find three a week.

They may see not being asked to an interview as a failing to comply with rules. If you don't get a reply you cannot go to one.

On the Aldi application it is asking for all your school and college grades. Who said you don't need qualifications to get menial jobs?

ive got an interview on friday for a role of "UPS Technician" for Dale Power Solutions. i'll hopefully be maintaining and installing battery powered UPS generators. i already work with the manufacturing of medical and industrial batteries so i would (imo!) be the perfect candidate for the role. Dale's service operations manager is coming down from Scarborough to meet me in Starbucks on friday, never had an interview like this and it was his idea so i just went along. haven't had an interview in around 6 years. nervous. wish me luck!

I try not to worry about interviews. They are only doing a job and if you act normal and be yourself it should be OK. I don't try to overdo the impress side of things because it doesn't always work. Just be honest. But I'm not sure if I should give advice. I've only had half a dozen interviews in 45 years. Half of them have been in the last year. If he's coming to Leicester to meet you he must have you in mind for the job and just wants a friendly chat.

Careful if he asks if you can put him up for the night.

I should get a job, I'm so lazy though, just cba tbh, would rather stay at home and chill like a mofo, drinking tea and play games, why put myself through work when i'm already loaded, I just don't need to. Guess i'm fortunate, but arnt we all?

I've always felt that you should be bubbly...upbeat, many people go into interviews like they're awaiting their death sentence....can't be good.

Just go in as if you're meeting a friend (not too friendly).

Just registered for job alerts with Iceland and Argos. ccording to the list there are no vacancies in Leicester right now. I don't know what to search for. The job entre have changed the contract thing and I am getting little come through on job alerts for cleaning and other jobs are too far out. Only going to look for part time now. I may stand a better chance. There are so many looking for full time jobs and the requirements seem higher. I'd even work in a fish and chip or kebab shop. I'm 45 years too old for McDonalds though and I don't have an attention span of five seconds.

Just need to show three attempts per week. Got the LCFC steward, the job alerts for Argos and Iceland so one more unless I can count those two as two

Are you volunteering at the charity shop?

Unfortunately I got to sack someone soon, one more on the unemployment count, and i am not looking forward to that at all

I cant find decent skilled people at the minute for the love or money

OK. The manager and others are helpful. The manager stood watching while I was using the till. Had one customer with about five items. It's just a matter of remembering the sequence. I kept forgetting to key in how much I was given but told that did not really matter as it was just so the till could work out the change which you can do yourself. Don't need telling to give 5p change if its 4.95 and given £5

Think its Clear -staff code # staff code button item price item code sub total tillal amount given till open.

So mucheasier when it was just a till with money in. Some items have a special number on. Something to do with the tax law so have to be accounted for (donated items)

Anyway if I get used to it I may manage some sort of shop work. Not thinking of a big place something like a mini-mart or newsagent.

Whats the business? Applicable to nigh guard?

He said skilled. I'm skilled at being unskilled. Will enthusiasm and willing help?

Bloody hell, cheer up. You're never going to get anything with a mindset like that.

What did you do in the past before you were unemployed?

I've registered for job alerts off them. There never seem to be many serving in there. Theres 4 or 5 at the self service till 4 handing goods out and a couple passing them over. Maybe one or two managers trying to look busy with clipboards in hands.

Ozwin I was in security before. No pratical skills machinary, tech drawing with hands etc. There are more going for unskilled jobs.

I hated being on the till, like you said keying in the codes etc...it was surprisingly difficult, I much prefered doing anything else lol.

I'm doing because it may be a way to a job. Would not really say it is highly skilled.

Just clicked the Reed ad at the bottom of the page. It came up with 'Bad Request' An omen?

Well that's not working for you at all at the moment is it.

You should always try to impress, it makes you stand out and shows that you care about the process and want the job. Appearance counts for so much more than you seem to think.

Have a haircut, have a shave, cover yourself in weird and wonderful scents, and then go ask the Job Centre for some dosh to get a new suit and shoes... Sorted. New man.

You may, of course, not require any of the above.

I never meant overpress in that way. Of course you have to dress and look right. I just meant be natual don't be something you are not if that sounds right. In other words if asked where you want to be in a years time dont say in their seat.

I can imagine you are very negative in interviews, always pointing out things you can't do and basically just giving them reasons not to employ you. You need to talk yourself up, not down.

i genuinely do not have time for a haircut before my interview. finish at 1. race over to thurmaston to get changed for interview at 1.30. optimistic about it though. here's hoping

Not at all. If I get to the stage where I am invited to an interview it means I am through to round two and my chances have gone from 100plus to 1 down to maybe less than 50/1. It means that I am amongst those who have experience, age,and fitness on their side.

I just have to convince the interviewer that I am better than them. Easy peasy.

I could talk myself up I suppose put down that I have a few years experience, take 30 years off my age and say that I am competing for the GB Olypic team or be realistic in todays job market.

I have just applied for a premises officer at some school. Job doesn't start until september interviews are not till August 8th.. Need an enanced CRB I think I only have a standard one and if they need a SIA license mine is out of date. So if they have applicants with the CRB needed and up to date SIA badge who will be top of the interview list? Putting it another way who would you ask?

One thing in my favour I have done seven years as a security officer so it depends on how many positions available and how many applicants
