Do you run/own your own business?

Recommended Posts

Posted

If so would you like to see it displayed in a closed topic on here?

Put your name down in here.

If there are enough of you interested we'll look to set up a closed topic in General Chat where you can put down what you offer so that if any member wants to hire you or buy from you they can.

As long as you can get the info in a single post obviously with appropriate links but no animated gifs.

In order to avoid potential spammers a qualification time will be set e.g 1 year membership or 500 posts (views on that welcomed)

Members are welcome to post their views on this initiative in here.

I don't have or run my own business but whilst I'm unemployed I have various pesticide/chainsaw/brushcutter certificates if anyone needs another man for a job.

Can that go in?? I can call myself Johns' Agricultural Services or something to make it more official.

I think it's a good idea though, it could really help some people out and drum up a bit of business.

I don't run my own business, although I want to/plan to in the future. Quite interested in business so I think it's a good idea.

If you could do it, the thread could include details of business information, services, advice etc and I think it could be interesting for current/future potential self-employed posters on this forum.. Agree on the qualification time as well to prevent non-forum things from occuring.

I think people should be allowed to put in whatever they think is suitable, for instance they may already have a web page and want to just put a link in.

What he said

I too am available for various gardening services. Nearly 10 years horticultural experience, with certificates coming out my ears (chainsaw, pesticides, RHS, etc). I'm currently in work & don't always have the time (or the energy) for extra work. If I get anything I can pass on..........I'll make sure to PM you.

 That would be ideal, cheers. Although between posting that and now, hopefully I've got a job! :scarf:

I do, I would be happy for anyone on here to check out my website @ www.signpromotions.co.uk

you will find out a bit about us there, been trading for over 25 years providing signage to the likes of Pukka Pies, Stead & Simpson, Aldi, Porsche (not allowed to show that on my website tho) Coral, as well as internal signs, graphics, banners etc, about to install a 1600mm wide HP digital latex printer as well, to expand my range, meaning anyone interested in Vinyl graphics is also more than welcome to get in touch, next day turnaround possible due to no outgassing on printing as it is water not solvent based.

I could go on but maybe if you do set up a business networking part of the site I can write my full piece.

I would be willing to offer a discount to my fellow foxes as well, maybe this is something other people signing up to it would consider, that way we may all be able to pass a bit of work each others way.

I'd be interested in this, having been a self-employed solo translator (French/Spanish/Portuguese-English) for 13 years: http://paul-leahy.co.uk/

Would it be feasible for the topic to be in alphabetical order of trade as per Yellow Pages(e.g. Carpenters, Gardeners, Hairdressers, IT consultants, Plumbers)? It probably wouldn't matter if there were only a few takers, but if there was a lot of interest, it could be a hassle for people to wade through dozens of pages looking for a builder or whatever...

Bayfox beat me to it. The idea of offering a discount to FoxesTalk subscribers occurred to me, too, though I imagine that would have to be down to individual decisions. Also, if FoxesTalk admin ever wanted any scraps of football gossip translated from those 3 languages or to know "the gist" of an article, I'd do it for nowt...but would have to charge for full articles, for obvious reasons.

Re. Fox92's suggestion for wider discussion of business advice/info, I think this is a perfectly good idea, but would probably need to be in a separate topic to avoid cluttering the directory-type topic that Davie G seems to be suggesting.

It would be impossible to have any sort of order other than first come first served as the post are always in date order.

There's already a topic based on starting a business which could be used for any general advice.

Sir Alf I've merged you post into the Open for Business topic as for the contents that's entirely up to you.

Mods & Admin would be able to edit the first post, or a second post, which could have an index with links to the relevant post.

It wouldn't be hard to administer, unless a lot of people offer their services.

It's possible to have a summary in the first post, all businesses posted in the thread listed A-Z with a link to the post.

We'll see how it goes, there's a view that Pinned topics are more likely to missed/ignored but as it's closed it would soon disappear off the radar if it wasn't pinned so not sure what the alternative might be or even if there is one..

It could well fall flat on it's face and we'd end up having to change the title to Gone out of Business :P but i think it's worth a try considering there are over 10k members and regularly 500 - 1000 users online.

I guess so advertisers would have to give us a one line description they'd be happy with.

I'll give it a go.

Hi, I financially backed this business when they needed to move on and expand from a market stall...they now have a shop in the precinct in cov..no bank would back them, cos of the deep recession, which was a shame, even though they had won a top award at the NEC..i could see how hard they worked and that it was a great concept, and they needed a chance..the foot fall is 5 times what they had as a market stall..they are now thriving.. it can be done, even in these times..I get a big kick out of that..
