Recommended Posts

Many might like the fact springsteen and mccartney were stopped, I'm a big fan and they were over running but surely its a step too far.

Band mamber calling england a police state? there does seem to be a lack of common sense here thesedays.

IT was the jam session Bruce Springsteen had waited decades for – playing alongside former Beatle Paul McCartney.

But concert organisers at London’s Hard Rock Calling couldn’t even wait a few minutes to allow the 78,000-strong crowd to enjoy the rock legends’ duet.

As they prepared to launch into a final song, they cut off the sound from the stage in Hyde Park – meaning the pair couldn’t even say thanks to the audience.

Yesterday, Springsteen’s long-term sideman Steve Van Zandt blasted the “police state†tactics on Twitter.

He wrote: “One of the great gigs ever in my opinion. But, seriously, when did England become a police state?

“Is there just too much fun in the world? We would have been off by 11 if we’d done one more. Who were we disturbing?â€

Macca, 70, was the last of several star guests to join Springsteen and his E Street Band in a three-hour performance. Springsteen, 62, welcomed him on stage and said he had “waited 50 years†to perform with him.

They sang I Saw Her Standing There and Twist and Shout before the microphones were cut off.

Even London mayor Boris Johnson slammed the decision to silence the stars on Saturday. He said: “If they had called me, my answer would have been for them to jam in the name of the Lord!â€

Fans vented their fury on online forums, branding it “rock and roll sacrilegeâ€. And actor Simon Pegg tweeted: “What joyless, bitter killjoy made that decision?â€

Comedian Stephen Merchant also took to Twitter to say: “Ashamed to be British right now.â€

Organisers Live Nation said: “The curfew is laid down by the authorities in the interest of the public’s health and safety.â€

Other acts at Hard Rock Calling on Saturday included Scots singer Amy Macdonald.

I can't really say I have to much knowledge on the situation so please ignore this or correct me if I'm wrong, but the event organisers of the Stone Roses gig in Manchester which ended late, has been slammed by many people who attended for many health and safety reasons, which may also be related to a death. Surely with those recent events in mind, the health and safety of the public should be top priority, even if it isn't 'fun'.

The same thing was threatened when I saw Aerosmith at Hyde Park Calling a few years ago. Even though it had been absolutely smashing it down all day and there were numerous delays to dry the stage off they still made them hammer through the encore of Walk This Way for which they'd flown DMC over for.

Numan was playing the Poly arena back in 92 and just as he was about to come on stage, the fire alarm went off. We all had to pile out and it was 45 minutes before they let us back in. They then wouldn't let Numan play his full set. Needless to say, he never went back to the Poly arena and the reason for his 19 year absence from Leicester after they messed up the acoustics at De Montfort Hall. This sort of thing is either going to be down to licences or insurance only covering venues up to a set time. It's really annoying as you don't get even a partial refund
