Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Should have sent them to Gary Lineker with a note saying 'You promote them you eat them.'
Leicester_Numan Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I have heard of people that consider themselves pros. at doing competitions and getting many wins. Slogans seem to the forte of many of them. Interesting to know how they manage it. Well, back when I was a kid, slogans were a big part of competitions, that's where skill came into it. There used to be a publication every month called the competitors journal which used to give details of all the competitions that were running and people used to swap answers and slogans. Very useful in coming up with your own slogans or confirming answers before you entered. Don't know if it's still going but it's probably online now if it is. As I say though most competitions now are just ringing a premium rate number and answering a question only an idiot can get wrong. It's all about making money with those and your chance of winning is very small. It's just down to pure luck
Fox92 Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I won manager of the month in last season's Texaco fantasy football if that counts.. They got me a box at Leicester for a game, for the game against Brighton (the game we won 1-0). Dinner and all that was included, as well as Vassell being handed man of the match. All introduced a few former players, a talk by Walsh for example. Also won a competition when I was at school. End of school draw and my name got picked out! Didn't help that everyone just basically laughed their heads off because I won. It was a laptop which served me well for two years, then I sold it for £110 on eBay
Craig Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 My best was a penalty shoot-out at half time during a reserves match which I won. Much to the delight of my competitor I declined the first prize which were hospitality tickets to Newcastle at home (I already had tickets, and didn't want to sit in the Carling Stand), and opted for second prize; a signed away shirt which still hangs proudly on my wall.
Leicester_Numan Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Not won anything big. Although never been a big competition enteree. Never trusted them. Always seeing 'So and so won a car why dont you have a go you could too' and I thought no the most they'd give away is a £5 book token, all the others are employees. But after seeing what some of you have won maybe I was wrong. I always thought there was a catch. Dont get something for nothingand all that. The prizes have to be real and quite often, employees and their families are banned from entering. What I will say is enter anything that doesn't cost you money to enter apart from the price of a stamp. Don't ring premium rate numbers or text unless it's just a standard rate message. Sometimes competitions appear to be free but go in stages so check the small print if you ever get through to a next stage, that will probably be when the cost comes in Not won anything big. Leicester_Numan Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Hate it when I lose the signal and I get double posts
Guest Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 seeing the Numan image here I remember that many many years ago I won the pleasure principle album in a Smash Hits competition. One of many competition wins.
Raw Dykes Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Never won any big prizes, but I did win a few bits and bobs when I entered competitions as a kid. A box of packs of Premiership trading cards from a competition in the Mercury or Echo - were good but no-one I knew at school was collecting them. £5 first prize in paper aeroplane building contest at the White Swan, Sileby - I'd just been given a book about fancy paper aeroplanes for Xmas and pissed all over the other contestants (not literally - they said it's unhygienic as they serve food there). A load of Tazos and a Tazos binder (collectable discs with Looney Tunes on) from competition in a newspaper. By far the best thing I ever got for free wasn't from a competition. I designed a pair of trainers when I was at primary school and sent it to Gola, and they sent me back a bespoke (as far as I know - never saw another one anything like it) black shellsuit. It was when shellsuits were all the rage. I loved it. Then some idiot left it on top of the hamster's cage and the bastard bit a load of holes through it. I was gutted.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 a BBC Radio Leicester bookmark, tops you all!
Leicester_Numan Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 seeing the Numan image here I remember that many many years ago I won the pleasure principle album in a Smash Hits competition. One of many competition wins. Quite possibly the best competition prize........EVER
NewburyFox Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 A framed England rugby jersey from 2003, signed by all of the World Cup winning squad. Looks fantastic on the wall.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I entered a TalkSport competition to win two season tickets for any non league club. I was blatantly the only person in the draw! So last season had LCFC and Boston United season tickets!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 July 2012 Author Posted 18 July 2012 Went to some function a few years back, think it was the Turnstyle and a birthday do. There was a charity raffle and I won this. Forget who the players are. Kept meaning to get it signed but never got round to it. It's a framed black and white photo. Pride and place on my wall. The one in the background is David Nish, and the one in the foreground looks like Keith Weller, but the light is covering his face a bit.
Guest Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Looks like nish but the hair on the front guy looks a bit like Steve Earle
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 July 2012 Author Posted 18 July 2012 Many years ago I received a letter from Holland, stating that I had won a car, and gave me a Dutch number to ring. I was more than suspicious about this, as I had entered no competition, so I ignored it. Some months later it was in the paper that there was a phone scam going on, where three figure sums were charged for calls, The number was a Dutch one, who had conned people out of thousands, there being no prize or company.
Libertine Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Won a trip to Alton Towers from Radio Leicester after writing a poem about my Grandma for Grandparents week when I was about 10. Read it out on the radio and everything.
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I will try and get a better picture. If one is Nish then it could be weller
FoxesAreBlue Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I will try and get a better picture. If one is Nish then it could be weller Why not drop an email over to that club historian guy -- John Hutchinson I think his name is, he might be able to help
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Think this is clearer There is another player behind but only a leg is showing. Can't see where the rest of him is. Is it at Filbert Street. Theres a billboard to the right with For and a crossbow. Possibly Forest.
Guest Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Doesn't look like weller to me. A bit like Kember but he wasn't at the club until a couple of years after nish left for Derby. Someone will be able to tell you - sorry I couldn't.
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I'll look at the stats. If I know who they are playing and the ground it will be a start. That is only the centre of the pic to show the players
Zingari Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 I won the Guardian Saturday prize crossword . The prize was a feckin dictionary . Of all the things that a crossword solver is most likely to have at home already is a dictionary . Tossers !!
Rincewind Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Thats like all the Leicester season ticket holders to put their number in draw one out and the winner gets a season ticket. As if one is not bad enough.
Smudge Posted 18 July 2012 Posted 18 July 2012 Think this is clearer There is another player behind but only a leg is showing. Can't see where the rest of him is. Is it at Filbert Street. Theres a billboard to the right with For and a crossbow. Possibly Forest. Looks like Lenny Glover to me
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 July 2012 Author Posted 18 July 2012 A framed England rugby jersey from 2003, signed by all of the World Cup winning squad. Looks fantastic on the wall. Oh yes, nice one.
