What has happened to our away support?

The acoustics are poor but that's absolutely no excuse for an away end that you're in yourself, poor acoustics would be if you're asking a home fan.

I wonder if it's worth bothering with Middlesbrough, although if I don't go it'll inevitably be our best end since Norwich.

Middlesbrough? I'm quite sure that will be shit mate.

Charlton was good but that's the only away day I've done so far this year.

The winning/losing argument is bollocks. Some of our best away followings have been when we have been absolutely shit.

From the tv yesterday our support seemed to consist of 50 year old women so that might explain something.....Charlton was mainly pissed up blokes.

Correct the person I stood next to yesterday seemed more concerned about waving to the tv cameras when the ball came our for a throw in near us whilst 2 0 down

Brilliant if I don't go though.

I honestly really doubt it. It's a new ground, it's always empty, and we probably won't win.

It would be one of the last away trips I'd imagine to be good.

Yeh, this.

I don't know how much it was to get to Wolves but the result becomes pretty important when you're paying £40 upwards, I think it was more than that for Peterborough last season!

The problem with blaming our fanbase as whole though is that as an individual you are relying on all the individuals to help you create an atmosphere. I've been at games where I and a few other people have been trying our best to make some noise but if most people around you are over 50s who are happy to just sit there there's not much you can do.

That's just the way it is I'm afraid, unless you're at those kind of games where you know it's going to be really popular with younger people and hardcore blokes you're always risking it. We're not a huge enough club to get that everywhere, and when you've been in the Championship or lower for 9 years with hardly anything to shout about people are going to get disillusioned.

Maybe we still turn up in decent numbers, but think about which kind of fan is priced out and put off in this day and age.

True this really, I guess we're yet another fanbase taking a hit because of the huge flaws in modern English football.

Being honest I totally agree with you I'm just moaning about my lack of luck (again) lol

Pick and chose my awayers now.

Tend to know the good beer days and atmospheric ones.

Blackburn and Wolves are both poor awayers.

Boro' might be a bit better considering the amount of lads that will stay over in Newcastle.

I think it's more down to the fact that when we go away most of us are expecting a loss. In personal experience i've been to 16 away games over the last couple of seasons, I've seen us win 2, draw 3 and lose 11. Yesterday I went, pretty much knowing that if they score first we'd lose. In my mind before I get excited and my heart says we'll come away with a result, which is why i continue to go, but we hardly ever do. I think most people will feel pretty similar!

Atmosphere wise this season away from home has been awful. One of the reasons why I go is the atmosphere. I went to Charlton, Blackburn and Wolves. There was no noise for any of them. It's like we take about 10 mins to think of a chant and its not even loud. The worst away day last season (Millwall) was awful, but that was louder than any of the away games I've been to this season. Secondly, when we go behind the fans don't sing for some reason. A few of us will try but the majority will rather throw abuse.

Not going to bother with going to many more away games this season with already 3 defeats from 3 this season. And the rubbish atmosphere too!

Wednesday, Peterboro, Forest and Palace away should be fairly safe bets for a decent atmosphere this year.

Derby and Hull too!

Hull was bollocks for me last time but It might have been the fact I was stuck on the front row.

haha probably was! We took a good lot last season, and we will again seeing as they hate us and it's on boxing day!

Agree with the last 3 but last time we went to Hillsborough it was terrible, you're all on the top tier and almost nobody stood up.

My days of going away to games just for the crack are long gone. If I'm gonna pay a shitload to watch the team away from home at least I want to be able to think 'we could just win this'.

At present I ain't in that mindset.

Home or Away as far as I am concerned

Wednesday was average when I went, Palace last year was shit for a win, Peterborough was abysmal and Forest, considering the number we have there and the hate our fans have for them, is a bit underwhelming.

The noisiest visit of mine to Palace was the 3-2 loss on the opening day two years back.

Hull was one of the best last year IMO. That & Derby were right up there.

Are they?

The only club who have been average for years and still have great away support is Leeds.

Yeh, they're a class above anyone who I've seen at our ground in the Championship. Then again you'd expect them to be, they're by quite a way the biggest club in the league.

Portsmouth fans are Ok but nothing special.

Derby away last season wasn't that good!

Portsmouth are obviously not backed in numbers but make a lot of noise! Are Leeds that good at Elland Road though? Never gone, but will be this season :)

Having not gone for many years I've always wondered why fans who want to create an atmopshere dont buy tickets together...this may be difficult as I dont know how fans go about buying tickets and how they are allocated thesedays...but with the internet and social networks would it be possible for fans to target a certain area in the away end to but tickets so they are all (more or less) together?
