Leicester's Summer Sundae Festival 2013 called off after slump in ticket sales

Leicester Mercury

By Gemma Peplow

Leicester's Summer Sundae Festival has been called off next year due to dwindling ticket sales.

De Montfort Hall bosses yesterday said the festival was "taking a break" rather than being axed, and vowed to do everything possible to bring it back in 2014. :(

Starting to feel like 1981 again... :(

A real shame as this was a very good fesitval. The line up has been extremely ropey over the past couple of years though - I had free tickets for last years but I still didn't bother goin g and just flogged them to a mate. I think the last time it had a good lineup was about two or three years ago. Hope to see it back next year though!

Never enjoyed the headliners particularly. But always came away with some great new bands.

Will be missed next year, but even the greatest take a break once in awhile..

Come back ssw i'm missing you already :( :xmassad:

You had free tickets but sold them to a mate?

Yep. I didn't want them, he was gonna get tickets anyway so he offered to buy them off me. He got two tickets for a hefty discount, I got a few quid - everyone's a winner.

Really expensive tickets for a pretty shit 'festival'. Not shocked at all. Hope it doesnt come back. Just build up traffic for a couple of days. I'd prefer them just to redevelop De Mont into a ****ing amazing gig venue and have decent acts on all the time.

They should have priced the tickets more realistically for what was on offer and then maybe there wouldn't have been a slump.

Bring back the Abbey Park Music Fest for £2!

From what I've seen of this the poor acts on offer will be the reason ticket sales have also been poor.

Had they invested in a couple of decent well know headline acts I'm sure the tickets would have sold, whatever the weather.

Hardly a festival.

It's a music event that goes on for a whole weekend. How is that not a festival.

As I have said earlier I have come away from ssw with some wonderfully new bands. Not everyone wants to watch the same old headliners rotated year in year out.

It was more about the smaller often unheard of bands that I and my wife went for.

Great beer at reasonable prices even being able to take your own alcohol in kept the prices down for us.

Once again I will miss ssw next year and hope it comes back bigger (though not to big) and stronger in 2014.
