New Signing Today...

Recommended Posts

My sources tell me that City will swoop for Peter Gilbert from Plymouth today! 21 years old Wearside born, Welsh Under 21 International. He will join for an undisclosed fee and go straight into the squad for the game at Boston. Apparently the negotiations have been going on for weeks and Levein had hoped to take him to Norway but it dragged on longer than expected. He played in both games against City last season.

24 Peter Gilbert

Yet another youngster in the Argyle rearguard, the then 20-year-old Wearsider arrived at Home Park on loan from Birmingham City, but struggled to impress until a superb goal in the LDV thrashing of Bristol City seemed to give him the confidence he needed to settle down and show his true colours. Gilly is as reliable as they come, and he showed considerable promise for an inexperienced player barely out of his teens and used to second-string football, performing against wily old pros on the battlegrounds of the Football League. Now a regular memebr of the Welsh Under-21 team, for which he qualifies through his maternal grandmother.

Another young but quite experienced defender at this level, can't be bad.I remember a Plymouth fan on another forum saying he's dependable and pretty solid, nothing flashy.

I imagine we'll be paying a fee though :(

This will mean that McCarthy or Gerbrrand wont be regular starters though!

When has a team ever stayed the same throughout the whole season? Most teams have 2 players for each position and often all their players make 30+ appearances a season. Gerrbrand and McCarthy will both make 40 appearances or more if they stear clear of injury and suspension, it's the nature of the beast.

So.... just means we have good back up.

And if McCarthy picks up bookings at the same rate as he did at the end of last season we could well have a few bans in the backline.

Plymouth seemed to be abit pissed off he's leaving, they rate him. Although it does say he can become a little too lazy if he's not got anyone chellenging him for his place. So it will be good to see him and Sheehan battle it out.

Only 21 aswell, although he'll be 22 in a week or so. Nice to see Craig keeping with his plan for younger players.

Interesting to hear we might be getting a striker on loan, looks like he's had difficulty signing the striker he wants permanently.

Shaun Maloney and Malcolm Christie are two players we've been rumoured to be linked with and both are available on loan and not permanently, so they both could be true.

he is a brilliant young left back, what are we doing? absolutely gutted, he will do very well for you

Atleast you've got Taribo West and Rufus Brevett! lol

(hopefully) we will revert capaldi to left back rather than using brevett

in all honesty gilbert is a solid left back who lieks to run down the wing, he can create problems for opposition defences as well as their strikers, a good signing for you, any mention of a fee (speculation)?
