Finnegan Posted 10 March 2013 Author Posted 10 March 2013 Masi, McLean, Orquera all fantastic. Entertaining game really, great fight for Italy. Would have loved it if Masi had just backed Wales then, would have loved to hear the reaction in Twickenham haha.
leicsmac Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 That win was as ugly as Susan Boyle, but they all count. 7 points swing is the PD difference gap, so Wales need to win by 8 or more next week to take the title. If we play like that against them, I'd say that's likely.
Finnegan Posted 10 March 2013 Author Posted 10 March 2013 I'd say it's back in our hands really which is a massive turn around from losing your first game. If FIF has said anything right in this thread it's that top teams should be winning their home games. Eight points isn't an enormous ask. A lot riding on nerve and psychology. England have been consistent, not spectacular, and our defending has been epic in all but the first game. If we show some nerve, front up and believe then I'm quietly confident.
I am Rod Hull Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 Set up nicely for next week, could be an epic. Heart says England, head says Wales.
Finnegan Posted 10 March 2013 Author Posted 10 March 2013 As an aside, at half time in the first game, who'd have said Ireland would be floundering around unable to win a game and we'd be in championship contention by this stage?

If it's done on the record between us they'll go above us too! I can't remember how it works

Guest Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 An entertaining game setting things up nicely for next week. Taffs should go in as favourites and England shouldn't go in complacent. Could be a classic. Very noticeable that it was Flood and not Robshaw who gave the team the talk to in the huddle when sitting on their own line and in difficulty. Care was Michalak like.

You don't know what was actually being said, it was quite possibly tactical and directional in which case you want your fly half to be being as vocal as possible. By all accounts, Robshaw is a very popular leader with the respect of the squad. And I'll be surprised if the media and the bookies don't still hype England as favourites. Very much so.
Guest Posted 11 March 2013 Posted 11 March 2013 We both know that Wales should win by 8 or more at HOME! If they don't then England will have deservedly taken the GS.
Finnegan Posted 11 March 2013 Author Posted 11 March 2013 Anyone who wins a Grand Slam deserves a Grand Slam. They don't give them out for free. And I, personally, think that Wales SHOULD beat England at home but that doesn't mean they will. Quite clearly, sport is not about could and should, hence why predicting it is a multi billion pound international industry. The bookies have you as favourites for a reason, you can pretend you're the underdog all you want if you think it will save you some face and heartache if you lose but it is what it is. Your first Slam in ten years is up for the taking unless you bottle it and even if you lose, keeping the score within seven given this has been a hugely low.scoring championship isn't a massive ask. Frustrate Wales early on, defend, show some discipline and have Farrell take his chances and it could well come down to two or three points.
Finnegan Posted 11 March 2013 Author Posted 11 March 2013 Unless you produce a sensational attacking display that you haven't at any point away from home under Lancaster, I don't see how you're going to win by ten or more. Our discipline would have to be absolutely awful to give Farrell that much to work with. Keep in mind that, since the Scotland game, you've only scored one try and that was from a fumble and an accidental offside not spotted (though credit where its due, Manu finished it very well) and we've not conceded one since the 42nd odd minute in the first game?

Pipe down. We're going to smash you. 17 points. Easy. NEXT. Me and my (Welsh) girlfriend are watching this on opposite sides of London. It's too early in the relationship to start watching Wales vs. England 6 Nations Grand Slam deciders together

It's too early in the relationship to start watching Wales vs. England 6 Nations Grand Slam deciders together I've been in England for years and I still can't watch this fixture in public without fighting someone!! Whenever my mates suggest it I have to seriously double check they're prepared.

I'm just going to sit back and watch it all kick off. You and her vs. the world.

You and her vs. the world. there was a guy called Welsh Dave in my halls of residence, I'll let you imagine where he was from. Absolute mentalist and a regular in the very, very "local" pub next door. Collars me one year (06, when we flopped after our 05 slam) and insists I go to the game with him. Naively, I think we're going to the Goose in the middle of Wood Green where everyone goes to watch the rugby, including a sizable crowd of Welsh every year. Oh no. Drags me in to the Jolly Anglers, a very, very English pub, immediately pins an enormous Welsh flag up in the window and sets about abusing the local populace. Come kick off, he wraps an arm about my shoulder and starts blasting out the national anthem at eighteen thousand decibels. Or, at least, his version of the national anthem as it transpires he doesn't really know the words, not that anyone English there would have guessed that. Suffice to say it was a nervous affair. I managed to drag him out and get down the Goose for the second half citing "probable better atmosphere." He was much happier, then, having company for rounds of "stick your ****ing chariots." I'm all for banter and that but God it was suicidal. If we'd have actually been winning I don't think I'd have got out alive!

I'll bear all of that in mind as the Leicester lads take your boys to the cleaners. Who is Farrell?

Guest Posted 12 March 2013 Posted 12 March 2013 I thought you were highlighting that he'd spelt Farrell wrong but since he didn't I'm at a loss. Haven't you noticed his persistent use. Besides I was upping our boy Flood. Even if he plays just the last 20 mins Flood will still score at least 15 points.
Finnegan Posted 12 March 2013 Author Posted 12 March 2013 I thought you were highlighting that he'd spelt Farrell wrong but since he didn't I'm at a loss. It was his idea of joining in the banter, I think. Guessing he thinks Flood is a better player just because he's Tigers. Tell you what, every minute Flood is on the pitch the happier Wales will be and the better their chances. Toby Flood is not world class.

Tell you what, every minute Flood is on the pitch the happier Wales will be and the better their chances. Toby Flood is not world class. Flood has a far better all round game than Farrell and his intelligence is on another level. I'm not unhappy with Farrell he can kick and that's what we need of him. Wales wish they had a number 10 of Flood's ability.
Alexikokopops Posted 12 March 2013 Posted 12 March 2013 About two and a half years ago I saw Toby Flood on a deserted Twickenham train station at about 8pm on a weekday (Wednesday I think, possibly Thursday) evening. In England tracksuit with a kit bag. He looked completely and utterly bamboozled, aimlessly wandering from one platform to another (there's only four). I've no idea what train he got on or where he was going and I don't think he did either. If the man can't figure out a mid-sized suburban train station then I'm not sure I trust him to order my back line.
Finnegan Posted 12 March 2013 Author Posted 12 March 2013 pretty much every fly half we have is better than Flood. Flood is okay, he merits his place in the squad, but he's average at international level. Farrell is not as creative as Flood, sure, but he's infinitely better defensively and his kicking game is superb. He's what England need, he's in exactly the same mould as Johnny Wilkinson and given his age he's only going to get better. To be honest, I'm a little surprised you love Flood as much as you do, you probably don't get a lot of premiership rugby over there. I know quite a few season ticket holders at Welford Road that consider him an occasional weak link. Have certainly had better over the years. God how I wish Van De Westheiuzen (sp?) had stuck around longer when I had my ST. Absolute wizard to watch. Better than Andy fkin Goode anyway!
