Finnegan Posted 24 February 2013 Author Posted 24 February 2013 a typical poster - I know more than you, you fair weather supporter. You really shouldn't jump to such conclusions on an internet forum. If you say so.
Finnegan Posted 24 February 2013 Author Posted 24 February 2013 Of course, we beat Italy therefore we're the best team in the world. If the main forum on here has taught me anything, it's that 1 win against a shit team = guaranteed to win the tournament. Being realistic France will dick us over unless they have an absolute nightmare, but I'd be hopeful of avoiding the wooden spoon at this stage - France away is a horrible tie, and tbf Ireland and Wales at home aren't ones I'm that confident about - home or not, both have far better squads than we could muster. Still - with Italy having to play England away and Ireland in the last two games, I don't see why we shouldn't hope to finish above them. Murrayfield was the game I was least looking forward to coming in to this. I thought we should have beaten Ireland at home (and having watched the game I still feel the same, we could be on course for a Grand Slam decider if not for one dopey half of slack defending.) But Scotland's not always been a happy hunting ground for us. We should still be the favourites and we should still win but it'll be scrappy and if we don't manage our handling and we let it turn into an ill-disciplined kick fest then we'll suffer. Realistically, mind, we need to put more points on you away than England will against Italy at home and that's just not going to happen.
Bert Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 Hartley is ****ing terrible at international level. There's a reason you've got the worst line out stats in the 6N. There's also a reason why we have the most points.

Scotland are the worst team in the 6 nations other than perhaps Italy. No-one ever expects either Scotland (or Italy) to win away from home anymore and most teams are hopeful of winning an away tie in Scotland. Home teams shouldn't lose but if you have to choose an away tie in any six nations country then Scotland is probably the one you choose. Enough with the BS.

Playing Scotland you'd be hopeful of winning, but Wales record in Scotland is quite poor - since the start of the 80's we've met 16 times at Murrayfield, Wales have won 5 of those compared to Scotlands 9. Yes, Wales should expect to win, but in Scotland history is not on their side, and it's to be expected that Welsh fans should be a little apprehensive.

Don't worry about it, Al, he's made himself honour bound to disagree with me for the sakes of it.

I think you misunderstood me rather than deliberately took what I said wrongly. I said ALL teams SHOULD win at home but if you had to choose a country to play your away game in it would be Scotland. I haven't checked the stats but I'd be surprised if wales had lost more in Scotland than they have in England, France or Ireland over recent years. to win less than 66% of your home games against a country is not a good record. Having said that I may be an idiot - depending on your definition. Don't worry about it, Al, he's made himself honour bound to disagree with me for the sakes of it. Better you than some complete moron.

Same amount v Ireland (although they've played in Ireland more times over the same period), lost more v England and France. Their results in France and England have been slightly worse, granted, but the difference is england and france are actually half-decent sides. To have lost about 56% of your games in Scotland though, given Scotlands quality, is really poor form. However, the game against England for them is at home this tournament - and their record at home to England is very good (met 59 times all together, 35 have been Welsh wins). If you look at the games they've had for the tournament, only France away do they have a worse record than Scotland away, and that's by a matter of a percent, having played 14 less in France than in Scotland. I know we're a poor team, but give us credit where credit is due, we have a good record when Wales come to town.
FoxyPV Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 I'm not overly confident of a win today. I've just one of those nagging feelings about the match. I can't see past England for the Slam now.

I can't see past England for the Slam now. If we beat Scotland and they come to Cardiff with us still able to win the tournament, they won't do the Slam. Unless the Italians pull some miracle out of the bag I can't see us matching their points total, though.

I wouldn't expect England to win in Wales, but then again I didn't expect us to win in Ireland either.
Finnegan Posted 24 February 2013 Author Posted 24 February 2013 Jackson, Murray and Marshall win a maul. Marshall having a blinder so far. Some of the same silly Irish errors though. Line out uncharacteristically poor, handling errors, forward pass. If they sort it out this is theirs by ten or more.
FoxyPV Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 Earls Inexperience is showing from Gilroy and Jackson.
Finnegan Posted 24 February 2013 Author Posted 24 February 2013 Earls should know better, though, especially how often he's played centre with BOD.
The Doctor Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 Got to be floodgates open now, that should settle Ireland down, jitteryness in our 22 is the only reason they're in sight.
The Doctor Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 - We're going to somehow nick this aren't we?
FoxyPV Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 Yep. I told you had a funny feeling about this. Roge is coming on to be bullied by the massive Scottish forwards.
Vacamion Posted 24 February 2013 Posted 24 February 2013 If Scotland win this, the Irish have to wonder how on earth they let them.
