Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 I've lived in properties where I know for a fact people have died. Are you still under investigation?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Meh, I guess if given a choice between 2 identical properties, one had been the scene of a murder the other hadn't I would probably choose the one that hadn't, but really it doesn't make any difference. I don't think I would by a house if it had been specifically modified for murder, for example I wouldn't buy the Fritzel house with the basement that would be a constant reminder of what happened, but a normal house where someone was murdered, or where a murderer happened to live wouldn't bother me. If the murderer's house was half the price of a similar non-murder house, the decision would be made for me.
Guest MattP Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 No problem with it at all I don't think. Everyone has probably died or been killed on a spot where we live at some point in history.
Rincewind Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Don't think it would bother me. What has passed is in the past. Unlikely to happen again in the same house so I may feel safer just wouldn't want reminding of it. It's not as if there will be a noyice with 'So and so was hacked to pieces here' above your bed.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 44 Canynge Road - The Bristol flat where Joanna Yeates was killed by Vicent Tabak 10 Rillington Place - home of murderer John Christie who killed 8 women in his flat 23 Cranley Gardens - Murder scene of at least 15 men. 5 College Close - Ian Huntley's house Anyway, I was reading an article about what had happened to some of these places. Some have been knocked down but others are just continuing as normal properties. Could you do it? Could you really live in a place where such horrible things had happened? I for one could not. I think the Government should have a responsibility to reimburse any affected landlord with a market value for the property and then they should be knocked down as a mark of respect. Remember the mother of 4 in Derbyshire (Hulland Ward) who's kids dies in the house fire? We did the plumbing there after the fire, the mother has moved back in!

No. We do a lot of insurance work on fire and flood damaged houses. One down in Northants, the woman fell asleep in her chair the house caught fire, and all they found of her was a pool of fat under the wooden floor downstairs. I was working there on Halloween last year as well. Nice.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Sounds lovely fella. I didn't stay very late that evening
flowwolf Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Someone is living in a house in Haybarn close , littlethorpe. Previous home of Colin Pitchfork the infamous murdering rapest. I often wonder if they know it's past history.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 As you said some have been knocked down.Ian Cvntleys was one of those.Im not far from that one I'm afraid, anyway it might interest you but when it was knocked down the contractors had to sign an agreement that nothing could be taken to be sold ( there are nutters out there who would buy it) Even the bricks were crushed to powder.I also believe most of the internal structure was removed during the investigation. It was a caretakers house on the school premises,so those poor kids had to see that bastards house everyday, although huge fences were erected. I'd be fuming. As if I'd agree not to sell the scrap copper to the scrap yard dealer
Jon the Hat Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 The murder http://iwcp.co.uk/ne...rder-44580.aspx The suicide of the suspect http://www.iwcp.co.u...dies-45117.aspx The house for sale http://www.rightmove...y-24876924.html The property remains unsold. A bit sad really. The family have lost the lady and also now the property she probably worked her life to pay for is hugely devalued.
pSinatra Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 Someone is living in a house in Haybarn close , littlethorpe. Previous home of Colin Pitchfork the infamous murdering rapest. I often wonder if they know it's past history. I grew up in Narborough. I'm exactly the same age as Dawn Ashworth & I was friends with her. It's difficult to describe how it was during that time, as it was quite a close-knit community & everybody seemed to know everybody. I have a younger sister & we all lived in fear until he was finally caught. Everyone was under suspicion & it was clear that the murderer knew the area very well - so would most likely be local. We must have had the police round our's about 5 or 6 times for questioning. My sister's best friend used to live on the same street, about 4 doors down on a quiet cul-de-sac. Either myself or my Dad would have to walk my sister or her friend between our houses. They were not to go out unaccompanied. Where Dawn Ashworth was found was given the name of 'Ten Pound Lane', but we always knew it as Green Lane. It was the quickest way to & from Enderby from where I lived. It was scary as shit at night & even during the day you had to duck under certain areas where it was totally overgrown. A little after Pitchfork was caught, a friend & I were taking a short cut to Enderby up Green Lane one night. It takes about 15-20 mins to walk. We got about halfway, heard a crack in the bushes, shat ourselves & ran like fcuk!! I have never ran so fast in my life!! Green Lane has been tarmac-ed now & has lighting. It is nothing like how it used to be. The Black Pad, the other murder scene is more or less identical to how it was at the time. It is lit, but always seems like it could be a scene from Jack the Ripper......it always seems misty & lit by gas lamps. It's only a short stretch, but it's impossible for me to walk up it without thinking about the murder of Lynda Mann. The same goes for Green Lane. It's not so much spooky or scary.......just that you remember what has happened. Colin Pitchfork's wife didn't move from the area for quite a while........so the house didn't go on the market for several years. All the locals knew which house it was, but I doubt anyone from outside the area would have known. If they didn't know when they bought it - they will know by now. I doubt it's value was affected by it's history. As you say, it's on Haybarn Close in Littlethorpe, which were new-build at the time. There is nothing to suggest that anything actually happened at the home, but still. Pitchfork had 2 sons. My sister & her friend have babysat them both at the house in Haybarn Close. Not something I would be comfortable with!! The fact that he was particularly 'prevalent' during the times in which his wife was pregnant just makes it that much more unnerving.

pSinatra Posted 30 January 2013 Posted 30 January 2013 I remember reading they were considering his release, is he out now? There have been rumours, much like the transfer rumours on here. They come out of nowhere & ave a life of their own The locals got themselves into a blind panic a couple of years ago that he had been released. He was sentenced to allsorts of stuff on top of the two murders.......rape, perverting the course of justice, other sexual assaults. He has tried & failed to get his sentence reduced a few times. His last appeal, I think he got a couple of years knocked off. I don't know, but it seems that 2016 is the earliest he could be released. Whenever he is released, I don't think he will be reappearing in Narborough anytime soon......to the pleasure of some & the disappointment of others. I moved to Narborough a couple of years ago, I know of Green Lane but where is the Black Pad? There's a series of alleys leading from Narborough church & the Black Pad refers to one particular section. If you're travelling towards Leicester along the dual carriageway, there is a pedestrian crossing at the side of Narborough park & the Council Offices. If you look left at the pedestrian crossing, you will see the Black Pad. It eventually brings you out on the sharp bend close to the ambulance station on Forest Road.

I know the path you mean, live quite close to the Forest Road entrance. Whereabouts did it happen? That side or nearer to the church?

At the very end of Black Pad - the ambulance station end. You walk about 20 yards from the road before turning right onto the footpath. There used to be a big wrought iron gate facing you (leading into a field) as you turned right onto the Black Pad.........just there!!

Saxondale Posted 19 April 2013 Posted 19 April 2013 Not really. Stop being doublards. Just find another, better place that isn't the former scene of a grizzly event.
