Rincewind Posted 2 February 2013 Author Posted 2 February 2013 Well that is all that matters isn't it?
Jon the Hat Posted 2 February 2013 Posted 2 February 2013 Well as the website theme is all about how cuts will make people financially worse off, I thought a bit of balance was needed!
Guest BlueBrett Posted 2 February 2013 Posted 2 February 2013 I suppose you'd rather have thousands of useless bodies in unnecessary, unthinking state sector jobs and underused 'community centres' on every street corner. You should make a banner and get marching. "FREE POOL FOR THE POOR".
Rincewind Posted 2 February 2013 Author Posted 2 February 2013 If a person is not going to be adversely affected then they have nothing to worry about and can carry on with their lives.

Or getting no money and so turning to crime to live. Mass employment (regardless of employer) works. Gets people earning, gets people working, gets people spending, gets money and economy moving.
Benji Posted 2 February 2013 Posted 2 February 2013 Well as the website theme is all about how cuts will make people financially worse off, I thought a bit of balance was needed! Don't be silly, they are a working group with representatives of the TUC, Unison and Unite, three of the most balanced, level headed and realistic groups in the country. If anyone is going to be unbias, it's these guys.
Carl the Llama Posted 2 February 2013 Posted 2 February 2013 I don't live or pay taxes in the UK. You're on your own bitches!

In some cases I'd agree with you but in many I'd rather pay them 70 quid a week dole money than 16-20k a year for doing a mindless, pointless job that they are barely even capable of - The staff in the jobcentre being the prime example. Those lot take the biscuit for being the biggest load of unhelpful incompetents and yet they still carry themselves with the air of people who think they are praiseworthy public servants.

Fair enough. Would be nice to get them doing something else worthwhile though. Whether it's something manual or even just a hobby to contribute knowledge. Keeping people employed and spending money and keeping it circulating is pretty critical to keep an economy going IMO. The economy is still stalling because people are hoarding their money - which is no use if the aforementioned currency then becomes useless through economic collapse.
Rincewind Posted 2 February 2013 Author Posted 2 February 2013 Had an application form arrive today for a part time handyman job. 20 hours and the list of things I'd have to do is endless. No way one person could do everything that is required for 4 hours every day. DIY, clearing gutters, cleaning, sweeping paths, checking car park, plumbing, changing locks, checking hazards collecting stuff from contractors and more. Unfortunately even though the hours and location are OK I doubt that I would get it. Reasons being I do not have painting and decorators experience, not good at DIY, do not drive and my physical strength is not great. A few years younger I may stand a chance. If anyone wants the details of the company they are welcome to have them and apply. I may send the application off but I believe there will be more suitable applicants. They either send the forms to all that show interest or my security past did it. Not trying to get out of it just compared skills reqiured to skills that I have and they do not match on this occasion What I am saying is the job could be shared as it also mentions overtime and checking windows in the AFTERNOON. The hours are 7.45- 11.45. Would suit a younger and fitter person than me.

I don't think you'd have to do those things every day. I imagine you'd find yourself spending more time sipping tea than you reckon.

Rincewind Posted 2 February 2013 Author Posted 2 February 2013 No it says daily roles of things to do. Then there are things to do twice a week and monthly. Forgot to mention checking smoke alarms keeping a log of the boiler room logs checking gutters clearing drains.

How often are you realistically going to need to do things like clearing drains & gutters, changing locks or DIY? Already your workload's halved.

Already your workload's halved. It says on a daily basis for a few of the things I listed. Anyway the workload is not the reason that I'd have doubts about doing it. I wouldstrugglewith some of the DIY jobs. Both experience and physically. I'm not very good at climbing ladders for a start.

Rincewind Posted 2 February 2013 Author Posted 2 February 2013 Anyway all that is immaterial if I do not have the skills, experience and physical ability to do those tasks as I would not get the job over a younger person that does. Who would you hire? Should I lie about my abilities?

Rincewind Posted 2 February 2013 Author Posted 2 February 2013 Stoneygate Court Limited. - Handyman Porter [email protected] www.cpbigwood.com The head office is Birmingham 48 Summer Row Birmingham B3 1jj The letter just began Dear applicant and asks for a CV if not already submitted so it looks like a standard letter that would be sent out to all. I sent the email as one of my job searches. I never really expected a reply. I could not apply for a welder or driver or many others. The job ads normally give less details. I may send the form off just in case the job centre checks. Waste of a stamp though I'm sure of it.
