MC Prussian Posted 24 July 2005 Posted 24 July 2005 They were huge at the end of the 90ies. Songs like "Common People", "Disco 2000" or "Help The Aged" were played all over the place. They had style, they had something to say and they had... Jarvis Cocker! What a personality... Truly unique, funny and smart. It's surprising that they started off in 1983, but slumped for the first couple of years and didn't publish a lot of albums. Does anyone remember the Michael Jackson incident in 1996?
Libertine Posted 24 July 2005 Posted 24 July 2005 How could you forget Pulp? They had some good hits they did, Cocker's bleedin' wierd though
Matt Posted 24 July 2005 Posted 24 July 2005 How could you forget Pulp and how could you forget the Micheal Jackson incident?! 1996 I was 10 Didn't really seem that long ago though! Changed my post now
MC Prussian Posted 24 July 2005 Author Posted 24 July 2005 Changed my post. It was in 1996 that Cocker got onto the Brit Awards stage and pulled Jacko's pants while the latter was posing like Jesus for the "Earth Song"... The Michael Jackson Incident (Brit Awards 1996) I like this bit the most: "My actions were are form of protest at the way Michael Jackson sees himself as some kind of Christ-like figure with the power of healing. The music industry allows him to indulge his fantasies because of his wealth and power. People go along with it even though they know it's a bit sick. I just couldn't go along with it anymore. It was a spur of the moment decision brought on by boredom and frustration." Classic!
Matt Posted 24 July 2005 Posted 24 July 2005 Changed my post. It was in 1996 that Cocker got onto the stage and pulled Jacko's pants while the latter was posing like Jesus for "Heal The World"... 143365[/snapback] I thought 1993 was pretty early, I thought it happened later than 1993 but wasn't sure so just went along with 1993!
Alexikokopops Posted 24 July 2005 Posted 24 July 2005 Thankyou SwissFox!! I've been trying to remember what actually happened in that incident for a couple of weeks now!! All I could remember was it involved Jarvis Cocker and Michael Jackson.
Nationwider Posted 25 July 2005 Posted 25 July 2005 Brilliant, brilliant band. Thinking about Lipgloss, Babies and Common People brings back a lot of hazy, drunken indie-night memories!
Head Honcho Posted 5 September 2005 Posted 5 September 2005 "You were the first girl at school to get breasts" Classic line only Jarvis Cocker could write that!!
Katy Posted 6 September 2005 Posted 6 September 2005 I saw them live, they were excellent. Something Changed always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up for some reason.
