Carl the Llama Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I think it's pretty obvious that the Boston marathon was a test run, and when they knew their bombs worked and had the whole country distracted they went for their real target.
purpleronnie Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I think it's pretty obvious that the Chicago marathon was a test run, and when they knew their bombs worked and had the whole country distracted they went for their real target. chicago?
Jordan Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 One thing that is a bit unsettling about the devastation caused by this explosion is how close a school and a nursing home--not to mention houses--are to this fertilizer factory. Firstly, it might make for some quite unpleasant odors for the locals. But secondly, and more importantly, knowing how explosive ammonium nitrate is, how can this plant be located so close to the town? I'm not an expert at zoning laws, so I don't know if it is common practice to have fertilizer plants next to buildings of other uses elsewhere, but I still wonder about this. I think it's pretty obvious that the Chicago marathon was a test run, and when they knew their bombs worked and had the whole country distracted they went for their real target. I think you mean Boston Marathon--Chicago isn't until 2013... That is... unless you're part of the Illuminati and know something we don't...
Harry - LCFC Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 Only 5-15 dead, not 100s. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/04/18/numerous-injuries-reported-in-large-explosion-at-texas-fertilizer-plant/ Of course, "only" isn't a good word to use here. Still a horrific event.

That is why I didn't understand the OP. "Reports of 100 dead". I might be being over the top here but that's kind of indicative of the fear-monger media culture that's prevalent nowadays. Sad to see it on forums as well.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 As for the moron filming it Aye. What was he thinking of? Potrait instead of landscape. shakey hands and 20 seconds of nothing at the end.

There did seem to be an element of trying to sensationalise the story - of course it's still a big, big story. No doubt about it. But yes, there does appear to be a fair bit of misinformation surrounding it atm. A bit like the bombings in Boston - Some tried to link it to Islamic terrorists despite having no evidence whatsoever (although this was the members of the public doing this, not the media) but it just goes to show how facts can slip through the net.

The US news also claimed there was about 10 people injured at the Boston marathon until the videos came out that proved it was a lot more.

I was just reporting what I heard on mainstream media and scanners. I copied what was coming in on SKY tv etc. Saw the BBC news say 60 dead. Newsroom in Texas tweeted 70 dead and a couple of hundred injured, plus people trapped in collapsed burning buildings. Also heard some scanner talk that suggested more fatalities than the 70 local news were reporting, plus many critical.
HoustonFox Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 It's pretty awful and to be in the same week as Boston makes it doubly so. I have friends about to complete a 1000+ people 180 mile cycle ride from Houston to Austin this weekend that ends outside the Capitol building in Austin (State Capital). They are pretty worried to be honest and that's not being sensationalist. I was talking to my American friends about this and reminded them that while the US is obsessed with FOREIGN terrorists, far more people have been killed by DOMESTIC ones (nutters like in Boston). I'm really hoping the reports of the TX explosion being a criminal act are not true... This in the week that tighter control on guns was rejected and people are celebrating it...
