Texas Fertiliser Plant Explosion

Another tragedy.

Reports of about 100 dead including firefighters. Possible nursing home collapse and up to four blocks surrounding the plant damaged. F*&king horrible.

This is insane.

I could imagine it would only take a spark to set off such a massive blast at a fertilizer plant. I'd guess this was an accident, but it's ****ing tragic. Nobody's really sure what the totals are but it has to be scores dead, many more hurt, and even more displaced.

Local news is saying there may be people still trapped in the burning buildings...

100 dead? Where have you read that? Apologies if there's been a report but I've seen nothing so far and that just sounds sensationalist.

A few miles from Waco, 1 day short of the 20th anniversary of the violent end of the Waco siege, just after an unexplained outrage in Boston...

Might just be a coincidence and not a conspiracy, but a fairly big coincidence if it is...

so you think it was a bomb?

Nitrogen fertiliser is very unstable when heated and has been used to make bombs, so effectively a massive bomb site, as a Fire fighter one of your worst fears.

I think if he was implying anything it was that the timing and location is “very coincidental†and possibly not an “accidental†blaze.

I don’t think you have to be a member of a lunatic fringe to think that arson just may be a possibility .

Or maybe you do :D

As for the moron filming it, I seriously hope his kid is fine. Uksakes.

I was sort of in agreement with you about the stupidity of it for a start, but after thinking about it I’m not so sure.

In hindsight it may look a moronic thing to do, but he looked to be filming a large but ordinary fire from what looked like a safe distance, and they were inside his car.

Up until the explosion I think I would have felt pretty safe there.

Remember lots of people were standing filming and just generally gawping at WTC2 right up to the total collapse. Many of them were killed and injured by the sudden and totally unexpected event.

After the event people believe that it’s obvious if a big aircraft slams into a tower it will probably collapse.

Were all these people who stood watching the towers prior to collapse morons for not placing themselves a lot further away ? They had nearly an hour .

I have no information and make no assumptions. Coincidences do happen. Occasionally conspiracies also happen, though not as often as conspiracy theorists would have us believe.

Given the location, the timing and the speculation about the timing of the Boston attack close to the anniversaries of the Waco siege and Oklahoma bombing, I'm surprised there isn't speculation that it might be a deliberate outrage, though.

I'm currently in Waco, it feels like it has been a long night! This has had no direct effect to me but it's horrible thinking about the amount of people who have lost their lives, and that have been injured, only a few minutes down the road. The explosion was just before 8pm, was pretty similar to a clap of thunder, we closed our windows as soon as we realised it was a fertilizer plant. Official reports estimate between 5-15 fatalities, with 40 in serious condition and that is just one hospital. It's hard to take any positives out of this kind of situation but the response by the local community has been overwhelming, many residents of West helped authorities set up the triage center on the local football field. Today is Dia del Oso (day of the bear) a day off for Baylor students, usually spent getting drunk for the day. The general response from them has been to get down to the blood drive and spend their day off volunteering at the centers that are providing the people of West with some shelter, it's pretty touching! Thoughts go to the people of West.

Surely anyone from near that place would know it was a fertilizer factory? If you saw it burning would you stand gawking?!

In fairness to him, even I didn't expect the explosion to be as vicious as that, and I knew it was coming!

At that distance probably... I know it's explosive, but feck me I was not expecting THAT!

That's a brutal explosion, holy shit!

Given that it was a fertiliser plant, that's a horribly apt choice of phrase...

Terrible news, and I'm not quite sure what to say to it to be honest. Certainly going to be conspiracy theories thrown about in the next few days - let's hope it doesn't attract attention away from the victims who still need help.. :(
