Then again I'm not bragging about going to Cambridge or posting socialist twaddle dressed up a poetry.

I don't think she ever bragged about going to Cambridge. I think I did that for her as a response to your comment about what the education system was 'chucking out' (nice example of informal speech there). Infact, it was questioned whether she actually had gone to Cambridge as another person posting on here couldn't find it anywhere on her website; that really doesn't sound like someone who is bragging. She merely confirmed it in the e-mail as it was a necessary part of a response to a whole heap of further assumptions that people were making about her on the back of the accepted fact that she had gone there! *sigh - you did accuse me in an earlier post of not reading the thread....

Your definition of the word "bragging" is pretty warped.

But you're right, you clearly couldn't have gone to Cambridge. I mean, you think 'stereotype' is two words and you seem to have absolutely no clue what a comma is. If that's what the education system chucked out in your day, then it's no wonder the country is currently in the state it is.

lol

Because criticising ignorant, racist cvnts is clearly only done by hard-line socialists.

Err you used the C word   watch out for the rep points ! :D

You need to calm down Charl. It's just a discussion , you know a bit of fun. ;)

Oh come on Renart. This really is a none event. A bit of piss tasking. Did it really merit a personal reply from the poet laureate of Tower Hamlets ? Blooming heck people on here are so touchy.

I've sent her an invitation to come to the Monthly Word Event at the Y Theatre in Leicester. Maybe you'd like to come along and apologise to her personally.

Renart is London based with links to Cambridge, I'm thinking Father, partner, brother, a combination of the three, or friend or something

Or one for the conspiracy theorists , maybe Renart IS her ?

:)  Sorry, didn't mean to appear touchy. I am not at all. I am enjoying the toing and froing. Nothing personal in it. You have to appreciate that I did post the original video and, therefore, see some worth in it. Therefore, all I have done is defend what I believe in. Very quickly I also thought that it became, in itself, an interesting exercise in judging others (something that the video itself seeks to address). I have said this before but it really is very interesting that this discussion has centred around how she sounds and assumptions based on that as to what is her socio-economic and cultural background and not the message of the video - which, ironically, concerns making judgements about people without having all the facts. Shouldn't this debate have been about the economics of imigration (the maths) and not assumptions that actually have nothing  to do with the issues involved. Is this not exactly what she is trying to get at in the video itself?! Interesting don't you think?

As to involving her directly, maybe you are right and it was a little dangerous but she is a poet who seeks a confrontational stance and so I thought she could take it. I actually didn't thinks she would respond. Let's be honest, the normal forums where her poetry is received are not like this - or at least, do not have such a breadth of opinion. That is why I like coming on here. If you go to her website then the comments are all positve; if you go to youtube then the same is true (mostly) and I am absolutely sure that those people who go to her 'gigs' are interested in her poetry and will be enthused with it. These are people who think similarly to her and seek her out. That, however, doesn't mean that everyone does and it is no bad thing to be challenged, especially if you are artistically minded - you never know she might write a 'rhyme' about FoxesTalk!  :D I also believe that people have a right to know what is being said about them (if they want) and at least choose whether to respond or not. I also like to be proven right.

But maybe you are right, and I apologise for the last post (especially in regard to your informal speech) as it was not much more than point scoring. This thread has probably run its course (unless anyone wants to talk about imigration and economics) but don't worry nothing has been taken too seriously and I have had fun!  :)

Ha ha. Brilliant. The links are happenstance I am afraid. I have never met her and she knew nothing of who I was until I e-mailed her the other night, and even now all she has is an e-mail from a randomer. To be honest with you, I didn't know who she was until someone sent me a link to her video a week-or-two ago. Still enjoying the conspiracy theory though.

I see a lot of performance poetry and I can say that the majority have a high standard of education and knowledge in what they write about.

Thanks for letting us know. You don't happen to know any good poetry books do you? Really fancy an anthology of poems by a local writer.

No need to be sorry. The banter on here is the main reason I posts. Though sometimes it gets a bit naughty which just makes it all the more enjoyable. I love foxtalk and all the shit I get and give , long may it last.  :D  :D

Fair play for sending her the link to this thread, and fair play to her for responding. I think that whatever you think of her output we live in a free country where you can express what you want how you want and everyone is free to comment on it.

I do think that those critical types maybe should just look at what they have contributed to world, what of theirs have they had the balls to put out there to be criticised.

Two books and published poetry. Both open for critism.

Exactly. If you put something out there to be criticised expect it to be criticised. How hideous would the world be if everybody just said "oh yeah that's really pretty" to everything?

Come to think of it that does fit in with your utopia actually, doesn't it. No personal success, no personal wealth, no personal achievement, all replaced by universal standard of mediocrity in all aspects of life including the arts where one assumes you want neither great success nor failure, and neutral criticism fits in very nicely with that.

Fair play, do you have a link to any, I understand if you prefer to remain anonymous on here, but I would be interested.

Still struggling with the reading lessons. I'm applauding the fact that we live in a world and where we can freely express ourselves in anyway we like and are free to criticise, and I'm not saying we shouldn't. Although the second bit was more an observation that some people don't create anything other than their own negativity.

As for my utopia, you are, as usual wrong, I am a big fan of criticism, I believe it is how you grow and develop, whether it be art or in the work place. It just doesn't really have the desired affect if it is done by people making snide pithy comments behind someone's back.

I don't mind constructive criticism even when it knocks me back. Sometimes unconstructive criticism encourages me. One place I worked I used to have the piss taken out of my work. But when I asked them to elaborate they couldn't so I just took the positive stuff on board and critisised myself. So now negative responses do not bother me. My stuff is not perfect and it never will be but I can only do my best.

No, in your 2nd paragraph was a clear implication that you thought personal opinions should be moderated based on whether or not you've "had the balls" to release creative work into the public demain, which is clearly a total nonsense.

Your reply is nonsense too. A typical PC ramble which has no connection to anything you've previously said on the subject.

Embarrassing.

Political correctness used to be called politeness. I'm all for criticism when it's merited but I doubt many would have the balls to say face-to-face what they type from behind a screen.

Tbf do you think she would have said what she said to the people she was sneering at face to face?

Maybe not.

Takes a lot of balls to put your face, name, face and voice to something like that though. It's so easy on the internet to criticise anonymously that you're setting yourself up for a lot of abuse when you post anything. Fair play to her for that at least.
