Found this list, not sure how they worked it out but at number 10 is Juventus with 21 million fans worldwide. Fairly confident Villa aren't in the top 50.

Looking on that list I don't believe there is more Chelsea fans than Liverpool fans. Though to be fair most of the Chelsea support in recent years are simply fans jumping on the bandwagon same with the recent Man City fans. How did Juventus get in the top ten!

Was gonna say if they put Juve in the top ten that's nonsense.

Torino are far more well supported in Turin.

Wednesday and United are fairly big clubs, but no bigger than Leeds, Derby, Forest, ourselves etc.

Wednesday haven't won anything for years and neither have United. Since their relegations, they've both spent considerable time in division 3. I thought people are always on about what happens now? In which case, Birmingham won the League cup, and were in Europe, recently.

Birmingham has two massive rivalries as well... Birmingham/Villa and WBA/Wolves.

Wolves isn't in Birmingham though, more of a West Midlands rivaly. In fact Wolves - Brum is only a bit shorter distance than Cov - Brum.

Also need to remember in Birmingham, there isn't just Villa and Birmingham but also West Brom. Every time i go to Birmingham on a non matchday, it's actually pretty rare to see Birmingham shirt, mainly you see only see Villa shirts. To be honest you'll mainly only see Birmingham shirts in the small heath area. West Brom it's pretty rare to actually see baggies shirt at all, there are only support within the area of the ground.

Villa are heavily supported through the out the region and to be honest they've got fans all over the country and they would probably come in the top 20 most supported clubs in the world.

Sheffield to be honest, when i've been there on non matchday you don't see any football shirts whatsoever, i remember when Leicester played at Wednesday last season, i didn't see a single Wednesday shirt until i got on the tram to the ground. To be honest i didn't remember seeing a single blades shirt anywhere while on that visit.

I'm going to say Birmingham personally, purely down to the fan base of both Villa and West Brom is bigger than the blades and Wednesday. Though saying that i think you might find there's more at stake in the second city derby than the steel city derby, why? I don't know. There's more people in Birmingham i suppose. However saying that at times it appears at times that Birmingham hate Villa more than Villa hate Birmingham. Which is the normal case of chip on there shoulder and jealousy.

West Bromwich isn't in Birmingham.

I don't think them fluking a league cup win and having a better recent history makes them a bigger club.

Wednesday and United are very well supported in comparison, Birmingham let themselves down considering they're in the 2nd City.

Because they're one of the most famous clubs in world football? Just a stab in the dark, like.

Isn't that a bit of a pointless observation considering what the article is based on (fans worldwide)? There aren't 350 million United supporters dwelling in Manchester. I'm sure elsewhere throughout Italy (and indeed, the world) that Juventus have more fans than Turin.

I don't think it makes them a bigger club either. In fact, I don't think Birmingham are bigger than Sheffield Wednesday (Villa are though), but everybody usually bangs on about recent history and Wednesday haven't won anything for years. Throughout their history, they've won the top flight and a few FA Cups, but so have Preston and Huddersfield.

I'm cynical though because where I'm from, just outside of Sheffield, and I don't like either of the Sheffield teams. I have a different perspective of them than you do, likewise you with the other East Midlands clubs. Most of my mates support one of the two, and my next door neighboors both support Wednesday as well. If you gave me an automatic win this season, it would be against Wednesday, no doubt.

From a local derby point of view, I'd much rather watch The Second City derby instead of the Steel City derby though.

Tough one. Both Wednesday and United are bigger than Birmingham City, but between them they haven't won a major trophy for 23 years and only one top flight season in the last 14.

You're out by a year on both counts. 1991 when we won the League Cup and 2000 when we were relegated from the Prem.

If we don't go up this season (and we won't) this will be our longest ever stint out of the top flight in our 146 year history.

Has to be Sheffield. I'm blinded a bit by the fact I love the city and have a bit of a soft spot for Wednesday, plus the majority of people from Birmingham do my head in.

So no real basis actually, I just love Sheffield and hate Birmingham!

I was basing my years on the fact that neither will happen before 2014 :)
