So you think this was purely a coincidence?

No I think it was a tribute in reference, why not show England not all Scottish fans are like that?

Jeez Ron your a sensible guy but only you could view a situation where some Celtic fans sing a song mocking a brutally murdered dead soldier, Rangers pay tribute to him and Rangers come out as the bad guys.

The Bears always have tributes to soldiers every year.

Give me ththat over Celtic fans booing Remembrance Day silences and the club promoting the Green Brigade's bigotry all day long.

But surely if the reasoning behind it is political point scoring then in effect the 'tribute' is empty and meaningless?

I wasn't defending those idiot celtic fans either just questioning the reasons behind the tribute.

Not really, the flag has been at all Rangers pre season games. The passing of the flag and the tributes were news last night after what happened at Brentford.

It was on display at Elgin in early July as well.

Its not so much the flag but the fact it was walked around the ground, that just seemed a bit too coincidental.

I don't believe these things should be inside grounds anyway especially with the histroy of the old firm, its very difficult to be sure of the motives behind it.

Maybe I'm being overly cynical, i guess that can happen given political ideologies of both clubs.

I can't let this thread go without another picture from Glasgow of the most horrific pair of full kit wankers.

Let's stop making a mountain out of a molehill.

I would agree with purpleronnie that it's hard to take Rangers fans' flag-waving seriously as so much of it is a put-on to show how patriotic they are compared to their rather unpatriotic (I'm not sure that is a word, but you get what I mean) rivals. Both acts are getting tiresome. The "Quintessential British Club" is probably something like ****ing Yeovil Town.

How the fcuk do the OB know?

They weren't stationed in the pub at the time.

You have to laugh, Green Brigade member says he heard it (was in pub) 2-3 Celtic others heard it and called it disgusting (in the pub) 2 Brentford fans heard it (in the pub)

Sally Benatar (ten miles away at the times) tells the World nothing happened.

You can't make it up lol lol

Jordan, do you really think having what we have seen and heard over here over the last twenty years we are as gullible as the Americans when it comes to Celtic's "support"?

I take it back actually, she didnt even deny it.

One of the most distateful of allegations circulating post match was a number of Brentford supporters who contacted the Chronicle to claim they witnessed Celtic fans singing songs glorifying the IRA and the recent death of soldier Lee Rigby who was attacked outside barracks in Woolwich back in May.

One man claimed to have been 'sickened' by the songs his family had heard and said it was wrong for anyone to 'get away with it'.

These were given greater depth when people claiming to be Celtic fans wrote messages on Brentford forums saying they too had witnessed the incidents and were ashamed of their fellow supporters’ behaviour.

The Chronicle asked the police whether any complaints had been made regarding these allegations and if an investigation was taking place.

A spokesman confirmed no allegations of any offensive songs or chanting had been received and added if anyone knew of any specific incidents they should report them to police immediately.

What are you even talking about?

Did I ever say the Rigby chants didn't happen? Did I ever defend Celtic fans and their reputation in this thread?

No idea, couldn't be arsed to listen to you after you accused the Rangers fans of a "put on show".

Come back and speak about the subject when you have seen the Auld Firm game. I wouldn't start chirping on the Knicks and Nets rivalry.

Lmao that's amazing.

I remember being in a bar in Malaga at about the age of 18 watching loads of them after going 1-0 down. This was really before I was fullt educated about the rivalry but it struck me as so strange watching 25 odd blokes kissing rosary beads whilst shouting for help from the pope watching football.

Without expanding upon my disdain for either of the bigoted gangs of swivel-eyed wanks who spoil it for everyone else, can I just add at this point that no one up here calls it the "auld" firm.

It's "Auld Reekie" for Edinburgh, "Auld Lang Syne" for a New Years Eve song based on a Rabbie Burns poem, and the "Auld Alliance" for a description of the franco-scottish alliance.

In the West of Scotland, they can't be arsed with all that sentimental, faux-Scots, tartan-clad, ginger mcsentimental pish - they just call it the "Old Firm" or, in football forums the "OF".

Rangers sing some disgusting songs about killing Fenians and the deaths of 100's of thousands of people in the famine that seem to get dismissed by the English media or people on this forum due to the affiliation of Rangers to Britain and the British army. To support this I was at a European festival last week where someone with a Yorkshire accent and a Leeds shirt on called me a Fenian bastard just for wearing a Celtic top, not knowing what my religion or background was. So please don't tarnish Celtic fans and the Green Brigade as being some kind of hate filled mob, when a lot of fans you talk to especially in Europe say we're the best and friendliest fans they've ever seen, which maybe could not be said for Rangers and other English teams.

I think the answers were quite clear before that. Nice try at being clever, though.

So, about the subject of the Old Firm: It is one of the most famous fixtures in sport. It receives publicity that stretches far beyond the actual significance of the games themselves. It's been dissected countless times by players, managers, fans, pundits, journalists, academic types, filmmakers, politicians and, of course, the police. Most people with an active interest in professional football know what goes on in Glasgow (and Ulster ). Even such a small thing like what may or may not have happened in a Brentford pub has taken on a life of its own. The things I'm talking about aren't exactly privileged bits of knowledge like masonic handshakes (perhaps that's not the best analogy to use here).

But right, how dare I talk about the Old Firm.

If I came into this thread using a rather insignificant case of a handful of Celtic fan morons acting like Celtic fan morons for a few seconds as an excuse to pile on Celtic as a club (with a "We Are The People" or a child abuse reference thrown in for good measure), you'd be whistling a different tune. You're not dismissing my comments because I've been lucky enough to have never been involved in an Old Firm game--you're dismissing them because you don't agree with them and because I'm not being completely one-sided against Celtic here. And you know my comment about Rangers fans putting on a show is truth.

As the above post states, the chaos, racism, hatred and general scum this one take around the World with them is off the charts.

If you don't like these things, you would do well to sympathize with a different club than Rangers.
