Energy Providers

I'm currently with SSE who today announced they are raising their charges. I'm aware the others will probably follow suite.

Who are you with currently? If you're with SSE will you be moving? If so to who?

I've never been bothered about SSE, their customer service is good and every energy providers tariffs are that different in terms of what they charge for your first chunk of power to the remaining usage yet they always tend to work out roughly the same cost wise.

Who's the cheapest for a dual fuel bill? (standard meter not E7)

Thoughts?

Of course they do, because they don't actually compete against each other any more. They feel that they don't have to - they have the cartel running just the way they want, and the control of the market each of them have in conjunction with each other is absolute. They get more profit working together as a cabal than if they actually engaged in proper free market economics.

"It added that the rise reflected higher costs of buying wholesale energy and paying to deliver it to customers' homes, plus government levies".

i really can't see how that adds up as the  wholesale price is about the same as it was in Aug 09 so they are lying about that at least

I'm with EON. Theirs have crept up. Not surprised with the rises. The prices are to be frozen so they want their greedy mutts on customers cash ASAP whether they need it or not.

I know, what a great idea for a leader of a political party who is favourite to take power to give them two years notice that he's going to freeze their prices.

I mean, who would have thought this would happen?

Unbelievable.

There's also continuously increasing efficiency and environmental standards that have to be met, forcing their costs higher.

I think Ofgem have a lot to answer for. Not that they are to blame for price increases but since their remit is to protect consumer interests it is really poor that the media are having to go to moneysavingexpert for decent consumer information. I've just had a bit of a search online and can hardly find anything from Ofgem which explains pricing structures. The only thing that looked promising was a PDF on their website, but then I found the link is broken. People would probably take these increases a bit more lightly if they actually had access to the information which explains what is really going on in an impartial and honest manner.

Plus, we really need to build some power stations.

Every company has a fixed plan that will protect you from price increases for either 1,2,3 or in some instances 4 years.

E.ON fixed 2 year plan V4 is the one, very competitive and fantastic customer service (UK's number 1)

Been with them over two years xure there has been a rise. Will have to check. I hardly use my gas. Fire is out of action and I only turn the boiler on when I need hot water. Winter coming so its extra jumpers or CH.

Price rise was last January, first one in 16 months.

Fix your prices Ken, apply for the warm home discount (you can do this online)

My DD is £63 pm. Not as much as some but still dont see how I use that much especially the gas but they did the last calculation based on Winter Use. Noone is ever in when they come to read the meters and I forget to do it.

Going have to try and remember my login details. Would like to check before they decide to increase. I have found them OK. Wa Scottish Power and BG before them

Make sure you apply for the warm home discount, ring up and ask for an application form if you can't remember your details.

£135 towards your bill.

Just checked. I'm on Age UK one year, Ends in Jan. I am quite a bit in credit. I can renew 54 days a head so another month or so then recheck. I have applied for the discount. Went through the comparison thing. Mine isn't too bad. One with the most saving is reduce the thermostat but not had CH on yet. Its getting colder though. Brrr. nearly 200 credit. That will help over Winter. I know I can use the CH a bit anyway.

SSE clearly stated that rising cost of buying wholesale energy was a factor, and I'd say the implication is that it's the main factor .  . The cost of wholesale energy is pretty much the same as it was in Aug 09, so they are lying about that .It even dipped in the intervening years . Don't you agree about that at least ?

Why do people think our energy is so expensive when it's well below the European average?

That could be true, I don't really know how we compare with regards to other European countries, but it's not really the issue here.

They are hiking up the prices by much more than inflation while making wholly fictitious claims that rising wholesale prices are a major factor. This is clearly a whopping great lie . How can we trust anything else they say about the other factors such as "the rising cost of delivering it to customers homes" ?

Could they give us some explanation how that cost has risen so dramatically? Or is it just another big whopper ?

Though I'm sure most of it is complete bullshit as well. Some issues will have helped it along though. The Green taxes imposed by Miliband himself when energy sec would be one of the reasons since 2009. They have all sorts of targets to meet.

At some point our politicians may have to decide if they want green energy or cheap energy. And certainly don't start giving them excuses to raise it like certain people have over the last two weeks.

i'm not really sure that "percentage of household disposable incomes that goes towards paying electricity bills" qualifies as meaning we have the cheapest energy bills .

I think that sounds a very crafty bit of spin  :D

edit;

i need to go and save some energy and go to sleep now  :)

big day later !! COME ON ENGLAND !!

I pay my bills monthly via direct debit, and with bills being so high now, some may get a big shock when a huge energy bill comes through the letterbox and they then have to pay all the money with one payment

The warm home discount is a scheme where you will get £135 applied to your account.

You need to apply with your own supplier and need to be in receipt of certain means tested benefits.
