Soar Fox Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 I hope that the experience we have added this season helps us now we're sat in the top two. Didn't Nugent come out last season and say that they felt pressure being in and around the playoffs?
Mack Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 The addition of some much needed experience to the squad along with another year of learning and growing for our young talented players has made the difference. Only a very unfortunate run of injuries maybe in wide areas could catch us out.
LCCFox96 Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 This is our biggest month in a long time. Good results in December should see us clear by at least the 3 points we have now. We are more than capable of beating burnley and match QPR man for man in quality. We just need to dig in bloody hard and fight for each point. The reassuring thing this season is how we close the games out which gives me faith if we edge in front in games against the likes of QPR burnley and reading we can hang on.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Favourable results v Burnley and Qpr would be great for confidence but promotion wont be won or lost in December. The players will remember what happened in May and Pearson will use that to his advantage. We wouldnt be where we are had we lost pearson and some of the players in the summer.
Stadt Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 The most encouraging thing for me is that every time we've lost we have bounced back with a win (was there a draw?) which shows that a collapse is less likely to happen.

But weve only lost the last game before the international break thus giving most of the players 2 weeks off and the management staff time to sort it out. could be a different story if we lose say tomorrow.

Agreed but it would be a giant step towards it. Considering the next nearest side in Blackpool are 4 points of top 2 and 7 behind us we can really flex our muscles at the top with wins vs burnley and QPR. If you'll pardon the cliche those games are 6 pointers. I also think a win vs burnley, providing the gap between us was maintained will really rock them and their form may nosedive as a result.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 We had 30 points and were 5th. So the very decent first part of last season is still eight points off what we've managed so far this year. Funnily enough game number 18 was Sheffield Wednesday away. To be honest I think by that game we had just about hit our stride, following on from a battering of Ipswich and going on to beat Derby comprehensively as well. Those were the games in which we really looked like automatic material before a bit of a blip around Christmas and a very strong January. The fact that we've had a better collection of results thus far and that there don't seem to be many particularly strong contenders is pleasing but more pleasing for me is that I don't think we've even reached anything like top gear yet. I still feel that there's another level in this team and, added to the fact that we seem to have a knack for grinding out results, that bodes very well.
Thracian Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 The way I see it more than anything is how many points do we need to finish in the top 6. Get them points and then look. The fact that we have 38 already means that we are already over half way to a point total to see us 6th. With 29 games still to play! In theory, it would take a fook up bigger than last year to make the same mistake again. And this team, whilst certainly will have a blip or two, doesn't look like one that will go 20 odd games winning just 2 or 3 of them. I see it in that we could from now until the end of the season, have total midtable form (say 1 win, 1 draw, 1 defeat in every 3 games) and still have enough points on the board to sit comfortably in the playoffs (10 wins, 10 draws, 9 defeats = 39 points. 39+38=77). I wont think about the top two places until we have secured a play off spot and there is only a handful of games left. I never look at the gap down to 3rd, I look at the gap down to 7th. Why would anyone be thinking about the lottery of a play-offs place when we're sitting three points clear at the top of the table? Certainly not Nigel Pearson I hope. We need to stay positive and focus on getting as many points as we can out of every game as it comes up. There are good reasons for our current situation not least the massive improvement in the contributions of certain players like Vardy and Drinkwater, the impact being made by Dyer, the formidable presence of Wasilewski and the emerging class of Miguel to mention the most obvious. Add five significant things to a team that limped into the play-offs last season and fans have every reason to be optimistic but the job still needs to be done and the attitude needs to stay right. And that means focusing on remaining or improving on where we are already and not giving a thought to the notion of a play-off place which, if it happened, would make the prospect of promotion far harder to achieve.

Well surely each fan has a view on what they would class as a decent season. After last year, before this season started I decided that IMO top 6 again would be a decent season. So when I look how we are doing I look at the gap to 7th first and foremost and not the gap to 3rd. I'm not implying my way of looking at things is right or wrong thats just me. And to be fair, you will always secure a playoff place before you get promoted anyway, so surely thats the first important barrier to overcome.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Someone said October and November were crucial months, no doubt the same will said of January, February et al
M0901 Posted 2 December 2013 Author Posted 2 December 2013 I also like the idea that we have excellent cover in every position. Our bench on Saturday had Wood, King, Hammond, GTF, Schlupp and Logan? (Forgotten the other) but that really made me feel positive. I still feel King is one of the best CM's in the league, so with him being on the bench and De Laet still recovering, it gives a positive outlook to the squad as a whole; good enough to carry on this form anyway.

Guest Col city fan Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 I think that's the difference. Finally, we have got some strength in depth. Not many Championship sides could boast the quality we had on Saturday's bench. Moore, Wood, Hammond, King (when fit) are all players who can come into the team and can do a job. The signings of Wasyl and Miguel have made this possible. Personally, I think this is the best squad the club has had for years. It's an exciting time to be a City fan.

There's nobody in that squad that I don't trust to come in and do a good job, barring Bakayogo maybe. NP has worked wonders to assemble this squad and integrate them in the way he has

NP has worked wonders to assemble this squad and integrate them in the way he has Bakayogo is an interesting one mate. I haven't seen him much so can't pass judgement really, but he does look like one of the 'stranger' signings that Pearson makes every so often. I'm sure he does it on purpose to keep us all guessing.
