The Year Of The Fox Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 This isn't a sarcastic post. I'm trying to change my lightbulb in my lounge . It has two pins at the end of the bulb, like a GU10 bulb/spotlight not the traditional bayonet fitting. It says its a Self Ballasted CFL (compact fluorescent light) max 25w to be fitted. I can't see them in Asda or Morrison's. On Google/Amazon they're priced at £20 plus but on closer inspection they appear to be grow bulbs. I'm short of money but cultivating cannabis isn't high on my list of priorities. Are they that expensive or am I just being dumb? There's no way I'm paying 20 quid for a bulb.

Zingari Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 is there any reason why you can't change the bulb holder to the traditional bayonet type ? its usually only a case of unscrewing 2 wire terminals.( switch off at mains though) you can get the lamp holders and low wattage bulbs in poundland

Its on a green thing with a screw cap over the top. The green thing is the housing to the CFL. Where would these wire terminals be? Im aware of how daft this thread is but I'm stumped which says a lot as I'm pretty pratical.

That link goes to the GU10 section of which I've loads. All the best searching for a 25w self ballasted CFL though!

The Year Of The Fox Posted 16 December 2013 Author Posted 16 December 2013 does the lamp holder hang down from a ceiling rose just by a round cable in the traditional way? Yeh. We bought a new shade. i did wonder if the shade came with this green fitting (forcing us to use it as its the only means to fit the shade) which then forces us to use one of these rocking horse shit CFLs. Neither of us could remember though what came with the shade.
Larry_LCFC Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 On closer inspection, you're ****ed. Buy a new lounge.

Zingari Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 I'm starting to think it'll be cheaper buying a new rose you shouldn't need a new rose if there is a twin core round cable coming out of it

No theyre the traditional bayonet fitting. The one I need is very similar to the terminals in your first link

The Year Of The Fox Posted 16 December 2013 Author Posted 16 December 2013 I've stuck it on my Twitter if someone could copy and paste? @stulcfc The hole at about 5 o clock is one of two little screws. I'll try undoing them next time its light enough to have the power off

The Year Of The Fox Posted 16 December 2013 Author Posted 16 December 2013 Thanks. Look at that cobweb! The ex would have everyone believe she clesned up everywhere
Zingari Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 you should be able to change that for a standard batten lamp holder , the rose looks fine so leave that and just change the holder .
purpleronnie Posted 16 December 2013 Posted 16 December 2013 How many foxestalkers does it take to change a lightbulb?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 16 December 2013 Author Posted 16 December 2013 How many foxestalkers does it take to change a lightbulb? Strokes Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 This thread has done me no favours whatsoever i do realise! Thanks mate It's a piece of piss to change pal, get a bayonet or e23 fitting, turn the power off, unscrew that fitment remove the wires and replace with new. Wiring wise you can't get it wrong aslong as you put live and neuteral in seperate terminals.
Jon the Hat Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 I find taking a photo of the wiring before and after avoids the utter incompetence you might expect from an accountant replacing electrics. All within the Part P rules of like for like replacement of existing fittings etc.

danny. Posted 17 December 2013 Posted 17 December 2013 Just fit a new pendant, they are about a quid from Wilkinson etc. will take about 5 mins to swap over, will only be 2 wires to put in, you can't go wrong!
