Singing Section

Recommended Posts

Man City fans were class last night, our away support is nowhere near close as good as that. Even though i hate to admit it. Their variation of songs was very good. Alot of them original. Everyone was standing and everyone was singing.

Premier League contenders.

Going well in Europe.

World Class players to watch everyweek.

Add to that the fact they were wiining 2/3-0 in a cup quarter final, it's hardly surprising.

I remember going to the Etihad or COMS in the cup replay a few years ago. 6,000 Foxes attended and gave it a real good go and to this day Man City fans still hold us in high regard in terms of how good our away support was.

The talk of SK1/L1 is laughable.

L1 is the only recognised singing section in the ground, but I agree that it has reached capacity whereas SK1 could grow. However like Prayforsnow said why would L blockers move from an area where there is 500-1000 people already standing and singing to be stood with 50 other bods from here?

Football has changed. Leicester fans have changed particularly. There is no atmosphere in the ground and I am sorry to say there probably never will be. Don't blame the stadium or the club that really does make us look even more pathetic. Unfortunately we can no longer say ( as we used many moons ago) that we created one of the best atmospheres on the country. We are not the worst in the country by any means. And we are still the greatest football club in the country.

SORRY to sound like a broken record but it all went downhill very quickly after that BLOODY DRUM arrived. That is an undeniable fact. The best thing anyone could do is chuck that bloody thing in the canal. Maybe maybe then we could start again from scratch. Just maybe that might be the kick up the backside for the next generation to start singing some real football songs and not your nana ana annanaans ohohohohs.

This is exactly the prevailing 'I'm alright Jack' attitude from those in L1 that has held us back and will continue to unless something is done. If any of those 500 in L are serious about improving matters then they should hold their hands up and move. Accept that things may take a slight dip at first but take the long-term view. It's a shame that the good work can't be built on but that's just it - it can't.

I completely disagree. Some of the best fans in the world are led by a drum but there are two major issues which mean it's currently more of a hindrance than anything else:

1) It needs to be smaller - its sheer size means it doesn't lend itself to be beaten to quick or complicated rhythms which are a feature of English chants.

2) It needs to be played far more frequently - it must be played constantly to be a success - once one chant ends, the drum is hit immediately to start the next chant. At the moment we just have it beat when we get a corner or whatever. People evidently respond to it so why not play it more?

Probably in the minority on that view but whatever.

Agree with all of this apart from 1 bit.

Drums in Europe don't LEAD the chants, they compliment them. Big difference in my opinion.

Good work of what? 30 people at the back of SK1? Do me a favour. The South Stand is dead.

Agree with the drum talk.

Get rid of the drum.

Never had one at Filbert Street and despite what some posters have said here, 12,000-13,000 at Filbert Street made more Noise than 30,000 at the King Power.

I started going to Filbert Street in 1968. I definitely remember amazing atmospheres down there. Yeah there were bad days but far more good ones compared to our current Lego stadium.

Sorry yes you're right - was just rushing to write that at lunch and couldn't quite phrase it right. It could work here too but you need people willing to lead the chants all game and its something we seem to struggle at.

I mean the good work of getting 500 odd stood and singing in L1. The fact is you can't get more than that because of it's location and those sat at the front taking up room.

AndWhat? spot on again. Where the hell did you come from lol

Think I'll go to that meeting and I'll round up a few who I go with to join. We're all big on this.

Hate to say it but the complexion of the average football supporter has changed so much that I worry we will never get the atmosphere back. Sorry to be so pessimistic, but the game against Man City said it all. There were thousands near me sitting, not joining in with chants, who only got really excited when Sam Bailey came out. (Nothing against Sam Bailey by the way).

I can't have a go at them, its their choice what they want to do.

But the gentrification of football has (whether you like it or not) shifted the average supporter away from the male working class spectrum to the family middle class spectrum.

To many (especially the clubs) this might be ideal, and I am not going to say they must change their view of football.

It's just that I remember the make up of the Kop in the 70's especially, was very different to the crowds today.

I was holiday in Copenhagen earlier this year and caught a game there. 18,000 crowd, fantastic atmosphere. Crowd of mainly 18-40 yr old blokes drinking lots of beer.

The atmosphere is created by the crowd. NOT the club or even the team, its the crowd and I just feel the make up of the crowd is just not one that will lead to atmospheres of old.

Sorry to be pessimistic again.

Would love a noisy and yes hostile atmosphere, but I now fear it really is a thing of history.

Maybe it is or maybe we could continue to fight until we get to a situation similar to what you experienced in Copenhagen.

We cannot simply accept that the average age of a football fan will continue to rise - we have to do everything we can with the backing of the FSF etc in order to ensure that the next generation have a sport to follow when they grow up.

If a high proportion of the crowd is women and kids (apologies for the generalisations but there is often a basis) and elderly people, then that doesn't stop the people who are more likely to be vocal congregating together.

We really have got to sort it. I have honestly never seen this many bring it up after one game so hopefully collectively people are going to start attempting to change it.

Lets get that meeting on the 29th to be the start of it.

singing section? the stadium is where we go to do that not just certain parts of it. just pipe up and others around you might join in its not difficult but everyone cares too much about being told to sit down and watch the game as if they are watching it on the tele

Something which always strikes me about the L Block debate is season tickets have been available up there after the start of the season every year for the past few years.

People talk as if there's a waiting list. If you want an ST in L Block it isn't too difficult.

Where do you sit/stand in the ground currently?

At the risk of repeating myself

90% of those that are in L1 now were in the Kop when the KP first opened. IT DID'NT WORK.

We were serious about improving it .....we moved to L1!

The L1 vs Sk1 debate is a tough one.

I was a season ticket holder in the kop at the walkers for 2 seasons before moving to L1 for 6 seasons, before moving back to the kop for my final season ticket a couple of years ago. So I have first hand experience of both sections in very different times.

I understand completely why people in L1 wouldn't want to move to the kop. To them the risk of leaving a semi atmospheric area to try and get an atmosphere going in another section isn't worth it. There is probably also the element of saying you are from L1 which houses our most loyal and passionate fans, and with it being all season ticket holders it almost feels like it's a special club for these types of fans. That's certainly how I felt and I couldn't have been the only 1.

I commend the guys in L1 and K1 for being the guys still standing up for football and not just giving up.

I also commend the guys in SK1 that still go for it every game, it takes a certain type of person to stand up and sing in front of 10000 people that don't have any intention what so ever of creating an atmosphere.

While I was in L1 I never understood why any of my mates who want a bit if atmosphere didn't move into L1, but now they have a reason. It's full. J3 is too expensive and what young lad that wants to get pissed up and have a sing song is going to pay that.

The only way I can see the desperate situation at the walkers changing is having every single standing and singing fan at the walkers in 1 section being led by switched on passionate fans, I'm looking at you Filbo Spirit.

Will this realistically happen? Probably not.

I think filbo spirit need to change the mentality of our fans before anything will change in the stands.

Not if 5 mates want to get tickets together

Not if 5 mates want to get tickets together

It depends how much importance you place on that. L Block is a pain in the arse for it, there's five of us with STs in L Block and only two have them together.

There's often room just to stand next to each other anyway. Regardless though, it's a sacrifice to be made if you want to be in the part of the ground where the atmosphere is. L Block is never gonna move - right or wrong people want to stand next to the away fans.

Posted

This doesn't have to be an L1 vs Kop debate. The problem is within the kop itself. I was there on tuesday & I had fans in the block on my left singing one song, fans in the block to me right singing another, and fans in my block singing neither of the two.

If we could get a section (and i endorse SK1 as that area) where all the kopites could get together, that would be a start. I don't think anyone can disagree with that?

After time some L1 fans could trickle back. Who knows?

If the club endorsed the section too it would help i.e not sending the stewards up to hassle us and if people want to buy tickets they are made aware that this area is for fans who want to sing and stand. This would be better for everyone as people who prefer to sit aren't amoungst a group of people who want to stand.

Posted

Surely all these Anderlect fans coming over and sitting in sk1 would kick start the whole thing.

They'll probably be in the west stand again. Although it would be great if they did sit in SK1 in the corner

Did anyone read the program? Its had a page all about them when they came over and mobbed Wayl. Then the very last sentence is "We can confirm we expect another 40 fans to visit for the game against Bolton" lol
