Guest Col city fan Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Quite a Nice little watch, Brings back old memories What are your favorite Leicester city memories? Great or small, Onwards and upwards. Cheers for that buddy! The best quote, for me, was at the end of the league cup final against Borough.... 'Spirit, they have it by the lorry-load' Compare that to the whimper that we put out against Man City on Tuesday and you can see why we so loved the club back then. They just would not give up.. Great times..

Great times.. Those times will come mate!! We were such a unit then! Nothing could get us down, we would have given ANYBODY a game! I hope... Problem is, No disrespect to Nigel at all.. but watching those memories, it makes me doubt if pearson could ever take us back there? Looking at steve mcclaren at derby and what he's doing.. he's got in 4 loans (Including MICHAEL KEANE) and has the world scouting knowledge, and contacts to make things happen, do we? I'd love to see super Nige do the bizzo... But everytime I watch anything about club successes of Graham Taylor (Forget england), Brian clough, what McClaren is doing at the moment, More importantly what MON done for us, with unfashionable squads of "Nobodies" When we had those successes, who was Neil Lennon? Who was Robbie Savage? I suppose it's probably just watching the video brings out those old emotions that currently we are not feeling... but it does make me wonder sometimes if we have the people to get us there again! Good to dream, better to re live it! Onwards and upwards!! UP THE FOXES!
Soar Fox Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Great video and some great memories. One thing that you'd get from that team was 100% commitment until the very end. To think of the players we've had over the last 2/3 years and what they've been paid and then you look at that you can't buy that sort of spirit and commitment. Shame Nigel Pearson can't show our centre halfs that video on how to attack and head a set-piece. That must be the last time we were ever a threat from corners.
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 December 2013 Author Posted 20 December 2013 The one that made me laugh Steve Claridge - " I DID NOT SHIN THAT " whilst smiling his head off!

It's a shame nowadays really, that an average player now, is richer than a quality cup winning player in the 80's - 90's - 00's Especially when in those days, The bloody earned it!! I mean seriously earned it, playing without shinpads some of them, and still never sherked a tackle! Vin Jones - "BACK TO BASICS" Thats what we fvcking need, Into the box. Tackle. simple.
Zingari Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Thanks , really enjoyed that One thing that puzzled me though, Where did the Tranmere fans get that banner from saying "we only need 10 men" straight after having a player sent off ?

Good to dream, better to re live it! Onwards and upwards!! UP THE FOXES! Are you seriously praising McClaren for having a decent spell after taking over at Derby? Have you forgotten his reign at Forest? Are really going to praise him for loaning someone we loaned last season? You want an unfashionable squad of nobodies? What do you think we have? Ok Nugent, Konchesky and Schmeichel aren't nobodies, but then neither were Garry Parker, Mark Robins, Kasey Keller. Times are very different now, you look at promoted teams that are successful, Swansea, Southampton, Norwich, they play good football, even Stoke have adopted a passing game now, as the old kick and rush, big men in the box, blood and thunder, energy over ability, are in the past. Saying that I would love to have anyone in the team who could attack the ball like Elliott or Walsh, we got so many goals from set pieces, I think all but one of those goals on the video started from a set piece. It would just give us that threat we seem to lack.

I was not saying that I want and unfassionable squad of nobodies... What I am saying is that I want the passion, determination, and dedication to the club that those "Nobodies" had (I didn't mean all the time, Nobody had heard of most of them at the time we had the success) - we used to be a club with more Vardy type players than not. Now we have a couple who would do anything for the club.. the rest are prima d's, Jumping out of tackles, Low morale if we lose and all that bollocks, No grit or determination to most extents..... - I didnt mention that I wanted to play the style of football they played, I want the spirit we had those days of "I dont care how we win WE WILL WIN" Matty Elliott scoring 11 in a season? Be lucky if morgan won 11 headers from a set piece in his career with us... (Saying that he dominates most headers in open play when the striker has to try to back into him) I'm not saying I want us to sign typical 00' players, and play typical 00' football... I just want us to have that Unity, Determination, Passion, PRIDE of playing for us. Fvcking die for 3 points attitude. Nowadays if we come up against a rough center half they cry their eyes out... I remember Ron atkins having a go at st ledger when he was at peterborough, sledge made a massive mistake trying to control the ball, turn and pass in his own box, lost it and they conceeded, Ron: "Why did you do that, You're a defender, defenders do not do that" Sledge: "Well rio does" Ron: "Yeah well John terry doesnt, and he's a proper centre half" I want that John terry attitude, Solid at the back, conformed in midfield and wouldnt jump out of a tackle, that striking pair running down the heels of the defenders.. A creative flair would be a bonus, But It won't get us out of this league alone.

cityfanlee23 Posted 20 December 2013 Author Posted 20 December 2013 Well thankfully this season they are winning twice as many as they lose. Cannot deny that at all, If we go up though we won't last IMO unless we get a bit more grit to battle out those 1-0 leads and fight back when 1-0 down

cityfanlee23 Posted 20 December 2013 Author Posted 20 December 2013 I'm sure there was a stat where we have come back from behind to win the most matches in this league this season? I remember it but I don't think it was loads, Plus we are very unlikely to come back from 1-0 down in the prem!
cjslcfc Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 I remember it but I don't think it was loads, Plus we are very unlikely to come back from 1-0 down in the prem! It may not be loads but if it's the most in the division surely it shows we are one of the grittier sides in this league? Or, on the other hand you could claim we let that first goal in too easily and are just good enough to beat the other team. Maybe not gritty enough? Goes to show how easily stats can be manipulated to support our own arguments!

Corky Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 What about the 2-2 at home to man city more recently? You can't use one match as a sample size buddy. The Fulham game was a good example, went 1-0 down to an established Premier League side yet came back and went on to win a thriller. That showed passion and energy. Tuesday was a real shame but I'd say our fight has been greater this season, six times in league and cup we have conceded first and gone on to win and going behind doesn't automatically mean we'll struggle like it has done previously.

You also have to take into account that we were a better side than Boro, the gulf between us and the Man City team now is huge. Hardly comparable.

Exactly. Nostalgia is great but it's pretty naive to use it as a basis for another pessimistic argument.
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 December 2013 Posted 20 December 2013 Exactly. Nostalgia is great but it's pretty naive to use it as a basis for another pessimistic argument. It wasnt used as a pessimistic argument. You are making out that it was. The league cup triumph against Borough was done on the back of Borough being favourites (if I recollect properly) and us grinding out victories over the course of a campaign. Was that the cup run where we beat Man Utd (albeit a weakened side) at home and NEVER looked like losing? The point remains.... we were never favourites for the cup that season but tghe never give up attitude, along with some real quality, saw us through. A direct comparison CAN be made, in terms of effort, commitment and belief with Tuesday nights capitulation against Man City. You simply dont want a comparison to be made because it doesnt fit with you? Im guessing you see it as Pearson bashing perhaps? As somebody else said (Prussian?), Tuesday nights performance, in front of a full house of expectant fans, came over more like a training session for 'the big game' on Saturday. MON'S teams kinda saw every game as a big game. Thats why he and his squad are legendary in the eyes of the older City fans and why the cup has our name on it. IF we now go on to lose tomorrow, it would have been a VERY dissappointing week for us all. If we win, great... But I would still have liked to have seen a Leicester City side (whoever was managing it... theres the clue) put in a more spirited challenge than they did on Tuesday. I was brought up with better and expect better.
