Merging Cultures Posted 25 December 2013 Posted 25 December 2013 34, surprised by how young some of the posters are. Assumed some of you were miss 30s like me.
Guest Bilo Posted 25 December 2013 Posted 25 December 2013 29 but basically turn into a big kid whenever I'm at the football. I live in Lincolnshire these days but have long term ambitions to return to Leicester, largely for the next stage of my career to be fair, but due in no small part to my love of City.
deep blue Posted 25 December 2013 Posted 25 December 2013 Stocky, why didn't you tell me beforehand we were going to play so awful at sheff wed - I wouldn't have bothered going along with you! I am 67. Happy Christmas to all.
Guest shearfox Posted 25 December 2013 Posted 25 December 2013 Although I celebrated my 70th birthday last September, I don’t feel 70 and when I’m at a City game, whether at the KP or ‘away’, I feel nearer to 27 or even 17. My dad, a STH for years, took me to my first City game in 1949! – after the Cup Final v Wolves – but I do have the Programme and the complete Sports Mercury and Sports Mail and Leicester Illustrated Chronicle for that Final. We were in the Wing Stand, Block E. I worshipped the players especially Willie Gardiner, Arthur Rowley (never broke sweat), Tony Knapp, Colin Appleton, Derek Hogg, Gordon (Twinkletoes I called him) Wills, Dave McLaren in goal, Mal Griffiths, Howard Riley, Derek Hines and more. I remember players more so than games although the two games that I still remember quite vividly didn’t involve Leicester. Both in 1953 I think, the first was the thrashing of England 6-3 by Hungary and the other was the ‘Matthews’ Final when Blackpool beat Bolton. I went to the 61 Final v Spurs – still have my rosette - and all the preceding rounds including the first and then two replayed semi-finals. I was on the halfway line in 1963 – the lowest point in my life as a City fan. In between these two years, we were the ice-age champions. We were fantastic! You are either a City fan or you are not. If you are, then you know that Leicester were, are and will always be the unpredictables. That is why I knew we would lose against Sheff Wednesday and I just knew we would beat QPR! The better the opposition, the better we play. Leicester City have always had priority in my life. At Ashby BGS, we had to go to school on Sat. mornings. As a 6th former, I asked the Head permission to be excused to go to Hillsborough for the semi-final v Liverpool. He thought of everything as to why I should be in school but in the end, he gave up. ‘Alright then’ he said. ‘It’s up to you. By the way, where are you sitting?’ I showed him my ticket - Row D. ‘Oh, I’m on the row behind you!’ I do NOT like the grey strip but after last Saturday, I think that when they turn out in those colours, they should be called 'The Squirrels'! Merry Christmas Everyone! Remember: The future's bright,The future's blue and white! Brilliant loved that you certainly have had to suffer longer than I have...

teblin Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 A 2-2 pre season game against f••••t during the pleat era. I was spoilt for most of the 1st 10 years I watched city. 7 wembley trips, 2 promotions, 3 finals, 2 cups and 5 or 6 of those in the premier. Makes the last 11 years harder to take. Maybe this year will change that.
