Walker Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 Yes you are, a true legend for England and decides his body can no longer hold up, so rather than hanging on to get more aps for selfish reasons as many others have done in the past, he holds his hands up and says time to give someone else a go. Well played Swannie.... Good luck... You will be missed So he couldn't decide his body wasn't going to hold up a few months ago? After the summer Ashes? I'm sorry but this is such a pathetic thing to do. I know his form has been questionable but giving up on the team midway through an Ashes series is such a cowards way out. Also, having a swipe at the dressing room then backtracking yesterday have left a really sour image of a once really quality spinner.

And what ran out in Sydney and Melbourne gt sparked around and we get hammers again or move over and hie someone else a bit of experience playing in Australia, they may still get spanked around but will be better for the run next time we are in Aus. But please do not play Monty! He's a decent spinner but can't field or bat or run.
Guest MattP Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 Borthwick, Tredwell and Kerrigan are the next in line. None of them in the same class as Swann though.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 Treadwells fc average wouldn't fill me with much confidence and already 31. Kerrigan didn't have a great debut but is young. Know nothing about borthwick Who would you go with Matt?

Know nothing about borthwick Who would you go with Matt? Tough call. Think I'd probably give Borthwick a go, everyone we bring in from Durham seems to do alright. They'll go with Monty though, so not only do we suffer the indignity of probably losing 5-0 but we also have to look like a laughing stock doing it.

Erm, the Ashes is over, he has retired now instead of playing in 2 meaningless matches no point in him playing in them then retiring.
AKCJ Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 Erm, the Ashes is over, he has retired now instead of playing in 2 meaningless matches no point in him playing in them then retiring. There is never a meaningless Ashes test. I personally think the media have been disgraceful. I've not seen one good write up about how good he was for England and how his bowling helped us reach #1 in the world and win 3 Ashes series.
Walker Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 Erm, the Ashes is over, he has retired now instead of playing in 2 meaningless matches no point in him playing in them then retiring. With no other senior spinners on the tour? You think that's acceptable from a senior member of the team, no chance. I'm not counting Monty as adequate cover for him. This was his decision, no one forced him out. By the way, they're not meaningless matches at all. This is an Ashes series and he's given the Aussies and even better platform to spank us 5-0.

This is a selfish move from a player who I expected more of. The whole episode in the last 24 hours has just been so disappointing
marko Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 He's had a swipe, already. Reckon it's mainly aimed at Pietersen. Think Swann needs to look a bit closer to home when he says that some people are so far up their own arse. You'd be wrong. Bumble has confirmed it was aimed at 4 Aussie players. No prizes for guessing who.
Bert Posted 23 December 2013 Posted 23 December 2013 You'd be wrong. Bumble has confirmed it was aimed at 4 Aussie players. No prizes for guessing who. Was only going from this after it was released last night: Graeme Swann says some players have "no idea how far up their own backsides they are" as he leaves the international stage. Graeme Swann departed Test cricket with abrupt certainty yesterday but not before taking what appeared to be a barely disguised swipe at some of his fellow England players for not respecting the game. “Some people playing the game at the minute have no idea how far up their own backsides they are,†Swann said at the Melbourne Cricket Ground yesterday. “It will bite them on the a--- one day and when it does I hope they look back and are embarrassed about how they carry on.†Either way I think he's handled his retirement poorly. He'd not have retired if we were in a decent position. He always came across as one that enjoys the limelight. No co-incidence that now England are out of it he's put himself back in it. Great bowler, but his comments seem rather odd to me. The pot calling the kettle black and that.

He has been immense and a great part of our success & dominance over the past 5 years The gobshites break a losing run and win back the Ashes in the most favourable circumstances possible and all of a sudden the world gets turned upside down - I would like to know the extent of the mind games and what's behind all of this- more than just cricket that's pretty obvious
