FoxyPV Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Thinking along the same lines but in a different profession, should doctors / medical practioners be allowed to refuse certain treatment because it goes against their religious beliefs? Personally I think they shouldn't. Their contracted duties from their employment supercede almost everything else during working hours, especially if they are employed by the public sector.
Rincewind Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 I doubt it bothers the majority of them. It is normally the minority that make the headlines. What is newsworthy about (insert faith) serve (insert product0 despite their (faith) not allowing them to use it themselves. I believe the majority of application forms have sections for special requirements and for saying what religion you are or sexual preference.. If you opt out of these sections (I'd rather not say) then be prepared to be given roles that you woud rather not do.

The Hippocratic oath should prevent that. Although l I guess doctors will pick and choose certain treatments based on what they understand and believe to be the best. Religion, education, personal interest will all factor in. Best to get a second opinion!
FoxyPV Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 The Hippocratic Oath should prevent this but a friend of mine was told that her doctor's was a catholic practice and wouldn't offer certain treatments or preventions.
Rincewind Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 In that case they would give different advice or refer them to another doctor or another till.

I remeber being in Westcoats Drive surgery and a pair of gay guys were in there. One of them crying his eyes out because his usual doctor wouldnt see him because his christian views meant he wouldnt examine his crusty nob.
