Muslims allow to REFUSE to sell Pork and Alcohol in M&S Stores

Well no, religious tolerance isn't exactly a farce. Seeing as today most people choose to be atheist rather than follow a religion, they don't have any religious commandments to follow, and therefore no need to 'demand' anything. Pretty much no other religion, as I've already pointed out, have restraints to food apart from Jews who don't eat pork and shellfish. Not exactly a list that can descend into a farce is it?

Hindus and Beef, but the danger is that there is a lot more to religious intolerance than dietary requirements, What if Muslim men refused to serve unaccompanied women, or women showing a bit of ankle, or on their period. Or Catholics refusing to sell contraception.

Religious views shouldn't be allowed to dictate, and employers should not have to employ people when their religious views stop them doing their job properly, but that is not what happened here. It was a mistake or poor judgement, and M&S have apologised. Now lets move on to the next thing to get really upset about.

I guess that makes it alright then??

Do you really think people want to stand around waiting for someone else to come and serve them after they've finished shopping? Say you've gone shopping at the only time you can that day, and you need to catch a bus home, but you miss that bus because you've had to wait these extra few minutes, then what?

It's all about being inconvenienced.

But like someone said above, there's lots of inconveniences that come about in a shopping trip that may make you miss your bus/taxi/other transport. I'm not going to tell you to learn to drive because there are circumstances around that, too, and that could apply to anyone. But every single customer could be inconvenienced at one point or other. What if the person serving you wasn't old enough? Would you (or someone else) kick up a fuss because you had to wait a little longer in that scenario?

I know that sometimes Muslims (or a very small minority of them) come up with some deluded and out-there ideas, but I think that this whole thing has been blown out of proportion because it just so happens to be Muslims involved.

And where's the source from - Daily Mail. They love to take things out of context and bend the truth.

Plus you can't really stop at religion. If some bloke says he doesnt want to serve bread because he has "a thing" about it and you've let other people determine what they will and wont serve, then you'll probably end up having to give in to the bloke with the bread problem too, on the basis that a religious objection shouldn't carry more weight as that leads to discrimination against the non-religious.

It is clearly a slippery slope as mattp says, but personally o can easily see muslim aisles in supermarkets within a few years.

Think you will find a lot of Sikhs wont touch beef because the cow is sacred. I just gave a few examples. You could come up with an endless list of people who could refuse to sell something because of what they believe in. Or shall we take it to the next level and refuse to work sundays because im christian and its a holy day. I would get my arse kicked.

No it's not, that's hinduism!!  Sikhs per code of conduct should eat meat killed in the most humane way, eg single blow hence Sikhs should not eat halal meat.  But due to the influence of hinduism within Sikhism, a few uneducated or uninformed SIkhs of there own religion, follow such and really should go and get knowledge of there faith.  There is no such sacred animal in Sikhism.

By the way Sikhs should not drink alcohol, and you've got to look at how many off licences are owned by Sikhs.

I can imagine many muslims being embarrased at the article, and they should questions those muslims that believe as such

I think there was more important news to report on that affects peoples life. There was an important debate in Parliment but certain sections chose to go with the muslim story instead. I wonder why? I do not care about it. It only applies to a small number of people and not the majority of working people that are struggling on a daily basis.

Sikhs have no food regulations whatsoever. My Sikh mate eats the lot, Sikhs can't be excommunicated for eating meat.

Christians are not required to work Sunday, it isn't a sin. But here's an article to consider:

 http://www.christiantoday.com/article/christians.have.a.right.not.to.work.on.sunday.court.decides/34941.htm

Lazy Christians! We should ban them from the country!

Doesn't the article say that they M&S don't put people in roles where they would feel uncomfortable with, which is just basic common sense. The people in question are in part at fault for not raising the issue before it became a problem serving a customer.

There's a similar argument when people refuse to join the army when there's a draft and they're conscientious objectors - occasionally on grounds of religion. It doesn't make sense in any case to give a pacifist a gun any more than it does to put a Muslim in a pork butchers.

At what point did this oh so inconvenienced chap say 'well fvck this, I'm calling the Daily Mail'?

This is literally nothing more than a misjudgement by M&S. On a similar scale to every other little issue that people encounter at work....  'Oh I wish Mr Goldstein would get back to me on that e-mail this evening, how dare he respect the Sabbath?!'

How anyone could ever turn this into a discussion on the clearly strong moral fibre of someone who they have never met and will never meet is beyond me. Fvcking pathetic.

Unless you are writing a hilarious BBC 3 comedy.

Actually I can see that as a hidden camera prank show, man goes to the butchers to buy pork, but they sell other things, wait ok a man (a normal man, like you and me) goes to the off license to buy some beer  and they have a Muslim (well a man pretending to be a Muslim we all know that lauughter and proprietors of laughter are banned by Allah) behind the counter he refuses to serve them :giggle: . Then we can film this man getting increasingly exasperated and angry at the fact he can't buy alcohol. I mean he went to the off license and the man working their can't sell him alcohol lol. He would do his nut  . Then he could offer him some crisps and a can of pop instead lol. Just as he is about to explode the shop assistant stops and prays to Allah lol  lol. Haha he is fuming, then the manager walks in, he was on his break, that is why they had to get the Muslim stock boy to man the till. It all makes sense now, the customer is relieved and asks the manager to serve him, but he won't serve him because he too is also a Muslim, :crylaugh: it would be hilarious, it ends with the man threatening physical violence so the shop owner blows himself up.

I'm on the phone to BBC 3 now.

Fair enough, you decide what's important and we'll ban everything else.

Average man living in the street.

A whole edition of the Daily Mail couldn't come close to the paranoid propaganda I read in one page of the dno newsletter.

I'm surprised at the number of people who would accept crap customer service.

Not really accepting it. Just understanding that at some points in the day it can get a bit busy and you sometimes as a customer should expect long queues and you just have to be patient.

And yes that does take in to account that some people have various circumstances that are personal to them. But then those people have to realise that other people have their own circumstances. It's not only you in the shop on your own.

I may not be the only one that thinks the welfare of children is more important than one or two M&S customers being upset at Muslims. I never said ban it just not to hype it to the level that it has been.
