elangLCFC Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Seen it a couple of times where a player goes down and grabs the ball. When a foul hasn't been committeed, I've seen a free kick given for the handball a few times. My question is, why is a yellow card not given for intentional handball? Always baffled me
Bilbo Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Yeah it annoys me when a player does it because it usually forces the ref to give the free kick. I've only seen a ref give a free kick for handball on rare occasions.
Bryn Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 For me, even if the player HAS been fouled, I would still book them. Similarly, I would book players who exaggerate fouls, even if I'm giving the foul. The rule is against "simulation", not diving per se, and for me even if they are fouled, if they roll around, grab the ball as they land, hurl themselves to the floor or anything of that ilk I would award them the foul but book them for simulation.
Finnaldo Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Didn't one of the QPR players do this in the game a couple weeks back and was judged a dive? We got a free kick for handball if I remember correctly.
Ross-Kemp Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Richie Wellens used to do this 10 times a game !
Stadt Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Didn't one of the QPR players do this in the game a couple weeks back and was judged a dive? We got a free kick for handball if I remember correctly. It was Barton, I think sometimes it actually tricks refs into giving a foul which is frustrating.
Fox92 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Richie Wellens used to do this 10 times a game ! Wellens was taught at Manchester United, they do it for fun. Wellens would go down to win the free kick, where as I think the OP is getting at players holding the ball when the free kick has been given. Not a massive issue, don't personally have anything against it.
The Doctor Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I think they tend to if they don't think it was a foul that lead to them going down (e.g. the Barton incident when we played them), it just tends to be that they give a freekick for a foul. If it's a foul and it's been blown for as they go down then it's not intentional handball because play isn't in progress.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I've always seen it as a bit of gamesmanship and time wasting such as if there is a throw in and an opposition player doesn't give the ball to the thrower
elangLCFC Posted 1 January 2014 Author Posted 1 January 2014 I get a foul is often given but the lack of a yellow card for intentional handball has always confused me.
