Deucalion Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 If you think back to previous seasons where we have been promoted, I bet you remember the pivotal goals, the huge away crowds and a sold out stadium, all to the soundtrack of the songs of the day being played somewhere at the back of your mind. One reason I think I keep going to the football, regardless of the distance to home matches, the cold, the hassle and the many, many better things for a grown up to spend their money on, is because I am always hoping the glory day are going to be repeated. So...we find ourselves 8 points clear at the top of the Championship. We have outclassed some teams close to us in the table, we have triumphed over adversity in games where that has been necessary and we look determined and capable of getting a result against anyone in any circumstances. So why am I so anxious about the outcome of this season? Instead, I am compelled to analyse the league table several times a day, computing projections based on this season's performance, the last 5 season's performance, or basically any factette which seems to give me an insight into the future. Surely I enjoyed promotion pushes far more in the past? I actually don't think so. I think anxiety and pessimism have dogged every successful season for which I have followed Leicester. It is only with hindsight that the hang-wringing is edited out, leaving just those glorious moments when you realised the club had achieved something. I also don't think I am alone. My evidence for this is the amount of optimistic posts which are answered with a call for people to just wait and see, as if even speculating on success could in some way prevent it from happening. But no matter. If we do get promoted...we will look back at it as if there was never any doubt in our minds that we would achieve our aims, it was just a case of sitting back and enjoying the show !!
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I try not to get stressed about football these days, if anything I see it as a way of escaping real life, which is far more stressful
Bayfox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Following leicester can make you the eternal pessimist. You just expect at somepoint they will let you down. fingers crossed it isnt this year.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Despite my outwardly ultra positive persona, over 4 decades of following the mighty Foxes has truly made me a realist (honestly ) Eg I do firmly belive we will set the new record tonight, however, I do have the twitchy banana skin feeling which I tend to normally keep to myself as there are plenty of others getting squeeky bum. I genuinely believe this season bears the hallmarks though. COYB.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Promotion in 2003 (given the future of the club might have been at stake) and 1996 were just as worrisome and stressful, especially since in 96 we'd blown automatic promotion. The brain just likes to block out the painful parts of memories.
Bagworthblue Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I allegedly suffer from high blood pressure. After years of checks it appears white coat syndrome is the main issue with elevated results when at the doctors. This was determined by giving me a portable blood pressure tester. The doc pointed out my usual lwvels were in the higher normal range but pointed to some major blips during the two week period. I hold diwn a high profile hugh pressure job but the only bkips came during LCFC games! ! My systolic levels soared to over 180 and my diastolic levels increased a little as well. Football following is not good for your health :-D
Bagworthblue Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Apologies for the shit spelling -bloody phone
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Was more stressed last season when I was doing the predictor twice a day trying to work out results to get us in the playoffs.
Deucalion Posted 28 January 2014 Author Posted 28 January 2014 Whatever happened to the predictor? Was so much easier to work yourself into a state.
Corky Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 2003 wasn't that bad, we had a massive gap to 3rd and no real bad run (three draws in a row was our worst after January I think). 2009 was tough, we were cruising and then lost our lead before returning to form. Generally Pearson ends the season well with us, four wins from five and five straight in his first two season when the pressure was on, so he does know how to complete the job.
Deucalion Posted 28 January 2014 Author Posted 28 January 2014 I don't think we will have a collapse this season like last season. However...we are all assuming that our phenomenal form will continue, when it cannot. We are in a purple patch at the moment and we don't know whether we are in the middle of it or towards the end. So we will return to more normal form, which hopefully will be enough to get us over the line. But...another team is due a big winning run, and so far QPR haven't been on one, apart from their current four game winning streak. Things look good at the minute and I suspect we will be able to relax before the end of the season...but not quite yet !!
