I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to calculate the amount of money required to afford essentials (house rent, bills, food, transportation to a workplace and communication). I think that qualifies as a normal - or at least basic - standard of living. At the bottom end of the scale, inflation on food and other essentials is outstripping wage increase and has been for years.

Some people live more expensively than others, what's normal for 1 person is abnormal for another. Anyway the govt tops up low wages with benefits, if you get more money from your employers you'll get less in benefits, you won't be any better off. It's cheaper for the govt to do that than increasing the costs of businesses leading to job losses, leading to the govt having to pay dole money.

I can imagine the costs of the basics are still pretty trackable based on location though. Fair point on the second part, the benefit of a globalised economy eh?

Monthly figures:£400 basic accommodation £200 Gas/electric/water £80 council tax £30 comms £100 bus pass £150 food and stuff £960 total monthky £221 per week Divide by 37.5 hrs standard working week =£5.90 per hour Job done, including tax deductions min wage already covers it. That's being generous as well. I've had my expenses down to £600p/m before and lived quite comfortably. Looking at it like that, the minimum wage is already too high.

Her lawyer says she wants an apology. She says she has a P60 as proof. Also she has been offered work but it would mean leaving her kids without care and they matter more than the extra she could earn. Whatever else she may be she puts her kids first and cares for them which a lot of people with kids and on benefits do not. She is not as stupid as some assume who judge her on her appearance and looks. That said I am still undecided about her. Out of her and Kate Price I think she is more likeable as a person. Kate Price comes across as arrogant and vindictive.
