Winnershfox Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 Is now the time to pin players down as the prem is looking likely?. Do we gamble on an improved contract for Kasper? Thoughts
Finnaldo Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 Finish the job first. Only a few more wins now and promotion is pretty much secured.
TJB-fox Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 Every game we win, I become increasingly confident on the whole contract situation. 4/5 months ago, I was worried about everyone out of contract but it looks like it is all going to fit into place. Get Kaspar, Nuge, Lloyd and NP signed up and ill be chuffed.
Haydos Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 Nope, secure promotion then deal with the contracts. The players know the situation, we've come this far without this distraction so I don't see the point. The players know that now it's reached this point there's no difference sorting them out now or in 2 months time.
cc_star Posted 1 March 2014 Posted 1 March 2014 I thought players could enter negotiations with other clubs in the final 6 months of their contracts if negotiations aren't underway? Players wouldn't want to negotiate now, agents know they'll get more out of us as essentially free agents. Pearson is the key contract, if that happens the rest will fall into place whether it's with these players or others he brings in
desertfox2 Posted 2 March 2014 Posted 2 March 2014 Pearson is definitely the main one, he should be offered a new contract right now. If ever Newcastle needed an excuse to get out Pardews 6 years remaining on his contract what he did yesterday is the perfect way out. If he gets a don't come Monday from Mike Ashley (stranger things have happened) why wouldn't they look at Pearson? He knows the club inside out from his time there and wouldn't have to pay us anything... He must be on a lot of clubs radars and if an offer like that came along surely he would be tempted..... The players with contracts running out with the exception perhaps of Kasper wouldn't get in the first 11 of a mid table side, good squad players and if/when we go up they will want to stay anyway as it's a chance to play in the premiership. NP has shown he has a great eye for players so even if they do jump ship he is the key to getting a decent replacement in. Not saying it will happen and really hope it doesn't but why leave it so open.
Spudulike Posted 2 March 2014 Posted 2 March 2014 Contracts are only to protect the player or manager. If a contracted player or manager gets a better offer elsewhere then a way is always found to get out of it. Most contracts have a get out clause anyway.
foxfanazer Posted 2 March 2014 Posted 2 March 2014 Nige is priority obviously. Can't see the harm in sorting his now. Although I'm sure he's fine about it all
