Zingari Posted 21 March 2014 Share Posted 21 March 2014 OK Rob .Hope you have a go I've done 40 of these but i'll break it into two parts of 20 Hopefully they are solvable , but it's quite difficult to get the balance between making them too obvious or too obscure . I'll post them and see how it goes , and amend clues or give number of letters in the answer if they don't get solved in a few days Cryptic "Leicestershire Villages" 1, Used Rick as a substitute ? ...........BROUGHTON ASTLEY 2, Captured wood .................. Newtown linford 3 is correct , not 10 though i've changed clue 14 because i'n not sure if the previous place is an actual village or just an estate. Zingari Posted 21 March 2014 Share Posted 21 March 2014 Gutted! i thought id done well with 19 as well! For 10 - Nailstone? That's actually a good answer and i'd say it nearly fits the clue but "nails" isn't really a synonym for "reduces" , but your sort of looking at it the right way , There's a more obvious answer that fits the synonyms better. Zingari Posted 21 March 2014 Share Posted 21 March 2014 10. Thurlaston? Thur(?) Las/Less Ston/Stone no its not as convoluted as that it's much simpler think of reducing in the way you might reduce something in photo editing .
Zingari Posted 21 March 2014 Share Posted 21 March 2014 Gutted! i thought id done well with 19 as well! For 10 - Nailstone? as an example , for the answer to be NAILSTONE , the clue might be something along the lines of; secure the weight ..........ie nail = secure and stone= weight or maybe to make it a little harder; the sound of scratchers...........ie. scratchers =nails + tone =the sound of it

Xen Posted 21 March 2014 Share Posted 21 March 2014 yes but Cropston ( ton not cropstone ) reduces weight = Crops -ton if you look on wiki there is a page with all the towns villages in Leics I got it after your last post with the photo-editing clue, but its already been answered (obviously). Kicking myself now, I'm constantly using photoshop for editing things like that, and my knowledge of the county isnt the best but that's one of the few places I know quite well.. Smudge Posted 21 March 2014 Share Posted 21 March 2014 All correct except for Marefield Smudge I thought that was a bit tenuous. The other one was Horninghold but I can't see the mortified connection.
Zingari Posted 21 March 2014 Share Posted 21 March 2014 I thought that was a bit tenuous. The other one was Horninghold but I can't see the mortified connection. Its very much a "homophone" clue (we hear) rather than any connection, Smudge. You were sort of half right with your first answer edit; well done with the Kirby Bellars one btw , I thought that and Long Clawson were the hardest oh and this one too .
