TrentFox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Right. Insomnia kicked in at 4am so I've read everything of interest on here. Twice. Bored now and have a dull day ahead, so forgive me for wondering publicly about the following, but this is the sort of rubbish that goes through my head at 4am ! I was reading the "is this the best squad to (nearly) be promoted" thread and this thought got stuck in my head ...... if you could take any two players from our own history and add them to the current first team with a view to making it able to survive in the PL, who would they be and who would they replace. Simple rules - ignore the chances in the game over decades. Picture the former players as they were at the peak of their powers whilst wearing a blue shirt, not after they moved on. And 'why' if you are up for it!! Inbetween bouts of news headlines, Freecell, aborted attempts at returning to sleep and even putting a wash on at one point, I came up with Heskey and Walsh to replace Wasyl and Nuge. I think that, whilst we'd be still a little hit and miss in front of goal, those two on top of our present squad, would probably just about be enough as they would give us perhaps the missing ingredients from this current team - namely aerial threat and raw physical presence. Despite Walshy's reputation for being a bit of a lad, I also think both would fit into the team ethic that NP has established and would work well with him as a manager .... based on nothing more than telling myself I'm right, obviously! Thoughts ??
harpendenfox Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Pontuus Kaamark, for his insane ability to read the game, to replace Was at centre back. Then I'd bring in Mr Gary Lineker to replace Nuge. And while we're at it Muzzy can replace Dean Hammond on the bench.

veezeeblue Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 keith weller and franky wortho -midfield is key and strength in depth for premier success. Need coverage all around (only 2!!!!???)
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Neil Lennon and Gary Lineker Lennon as the DM when we need to change our formation. Lineker to be the 'fox in the box'.
Leicester_Numan Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 First 2 I thought of were Heskey and Walsh as well. There's so many to choose from but I don't think they'd all fit in with the way we play nowadays. The pre-Liverpool Heskey certainly would
foxfanazer Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Going to go for two different players from the ones already mentioned. Brian Deane: A partnership of Deane and Vardy would be great imo. Vardy is a bit of a pest like Dickov was and he'd thrive off Deano's aerial strength. Steve Guppy: As good as we are we don't really have a winger that can put in consistently good crosses (Although Mahrez may be that player). Guppy is one of the best crossers of a ball I've seen
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Davie Gibson dancing round defenders, and Derek Dougan to power through and head the crosses, in bullet like fashion, into the back of the net.
Strokes Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 does it have to be the peak of their Leicester career? If not Mancini and collymore.
TrentFox Posted 17 March 2014 Author Posted 17 March 2014 The common theme in most of the responses is that, currently, we don't seem to have enough firepower to make a dent with present personnel ? I think that might be right.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 March 2014 Posted 17 March 2014 Collymore and Vardy up front... Could afford to waste the other one. Mancini on the bench.
