Gary Eatfood Posted 7 April 2014 Posted 7 April 2014 Despite being relegated this season had plenty of highlights, mainly the amazing draw at Villa Park, winning our only away game at Maine Road, Whitlow's equalizer at Old Trafford, beating Spurs.... I'm certain next season will provide many more, I've never felt more confident about a City side moving up to the Premier League.
Kitchandro Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 I wasn't saying he'd necessarily go to any of those teams, just that they might be interested in him. I agree that Arsenal is a stretching things, but Tottenham's manager at the moment is Tim Sherwood. If you were a Spurs fan, or even a Spurs board member, who would you rather have, Sherwood or Pearson? I think they'd want someone a bit higher profile or at least someone proven in one of the major leagues. As much love as I have for Pearson he's not managed in the top flight.
Captain... Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 Very different era, there wasn't anything like as much money around, and it was difficult to establish yourself in the top flight, the promoted sides often came back down and the relegated sides came back up, there weren't any big clubs going into financial free fall, like Leeds have done, and Cov (a big club at the time), there also weren't many millionaire's bank rolling teams, Jack Walker being the exception. Teams were limited to 3 foreigners, so there wasn't the same pool of players to choose from, and there was no transfer window, so there weren't big squads with loads of quality players kicking their heels in the reserves to be tempted away by the promise of first team action. It was also pre Bosman, so clubs had the power over players, there were very few transfers back then, as I recall, and I don't remember teams signing 16 players over the summer. It was a very different time, some would even say it was a better time...

Alexikokopops Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 I love the 1994 play-off final. Weren't we playing a 5-2-3, with Walsh up front? Absolutely disgusting behaviour, how did that shower get promoted? Derby should have won that easily, John Harkes missed a sitter to put them 2-1 up just before Walsh scored if I remember right. LOVE IT.
dave_the_fox Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 My first season ticket season, guess i was plastic back then!!
davieG Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 Wasn't Little suffering from a severe back problem that badly affected any preparations for the Pl, that wont happen under Pearson.

Was great until I found some shit had stolen my car and I had to pay for and get 2 kids and a 70 year old father-in-law back to Leicester.

I'll never forget Paul Williams on the line ducking under the ball, I've just looked on youtube to see if it was as bad as I remember. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm70RNOuxCE It was, what was he thinking, although looking back at those highlights, it really is no surprise we went straight back down,
Lobsterboyuk Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 Memory lane! Drinking lots helped massively during that season I can't draw many comparisons between the squad now and those lads, apart from a touch of class from Mark Draper we had tons of spirit in 94/94 but without strengthening across the team we were always screwed. On reflection fair play to Little for jumping ship to have a proper go at the top flight with Villa rather than his team of centre backs at City.
iancognito Posted 8 April 2014 Posted 8 April 2014 94-95 was the season the Mercury announced we'd "Broken The Bank" to sign Mark Blake In all honesty, if Little had been given £5M to spend we'd have probably stayed up but they gave him £1.5M for Mohan and Draper. That season was dead by about November. My first away game was watching us lose 4-1 at Ipswich on 2nd Jan 1995 which was already the wooden spoon match. It was the coldest, bleakest away game ever. And looking back, just how crap was that Fox Leisure kit?
