On one train service you can buy scratch cards with dates on. He covers the date with fingers when the conductor passes. He has been caught out a few times and last time I heard was on his third warning. Four and it is an instant fine. So I do not know how other train services operate. There is normally no court summons but on the spot fines or an excess payment.

The thieving MP Maria Miller pockets £60k expenses, gets told to repay £5k and "apologise" but will make £1.4million selling a house the taxpayer paid for. Meanwhile, during the riots a few years back, one lad gets 6 months for stealing a bottle of water and another 10 months for stealing a pair of trainers. They already changed the rules no? Stupid system is mostly although no completely fixed. I am not sure you can really say the taxpayer earnt the money made on the property either. The ridiculous thing was someone living in Basingstoke - where thousands of people commute from daily - being able to claim a second home at all. What a load of shit that was. I still like the base salary+ weighting for distance from London idea. No expenses at all - save millions on this admin organisation they put in. IPSA is it?

How does this equate to someone repaying a debt in full and avoiding court?

Rocket-Ron Posted 15 April 2014 Posted 15 April 2014 A few times late at night I've caught a train home, no one to buy a ticket from at the office, no conductor on the train. it's not that I don't want to pay, its just I have no one to pay it to. Still not complaining I do enjoy free rail travel.

Anyone that partook in the riots should have been sentenced as harshly as possible, and then a little bit more.
